Navigator Speakers

Post by georgestr »

Ok, I got hit while driving my Volvo a few days ago, and it was totaled. I had a fairly decent audio system in it, which I will be able to reclaim out of it before it's hauled off. Since it's replacement will already have a decent audio system, I was wondering if I could use the speakers in my Navigator. The problem is, they are only 4", which I think would be a bit small for that large of a vehicle. If I were to drive these off an appropriate amp, would they sound good? Will I have issues with any range of sound?

Thanks for the help

4" does sound rather small considering the factories I believe are 6 x 8"s in the Navigator, but it really boils down to what speakers they are... Myself personally I think fabing up an adapter for a 5.25" or 6.5" component set would sound better in it, but you may get a better sound out of the 4"s if amped versus factory.

I just pulled the front panels off and measured the holes. The oval is 7.5" at the longest measurement, and 5" at the smallest. With the window down, it's 2.5" deep. The stock speakers are a little box with what looks like a 4" speaker and 1" tweeter in them. Has anyone done an install in this sort of vehicle? Any tips?

Thanks

I would still suggest a 5.25" component or coax speaker as a replacement, as there will always be a better sound from a round cone vs. an oblong shaped speaker.
