uhhh...OOO everyone prbly wanna read fast war!!!!
Right on Joe. Just to note, I agree that we should not pull out. If we pulled out, they would only follow. We have gone to far to stop not, and IMO we are in the best possible place with all things considered. We are in a central area of the Middle east, and we are established there as a full combat military unit. We can swing whatever direction we need to continue fighting without major troop movements which will only leave us vulnerable.

i have every reason to believe that we WILL NOT go to war with Iran, and as for that comment about forces still in Korea, that is a non factor. The Koreans hate the Japanese not so much us... in fact some of them ask why we stopped at bombing 2 cities in Japan in WWII... I spoke with both my profs about these areas, and the one from Iran said that the reason why most Anti-American Sentiment that is derived in the middle east is due to our position in imposing our forms of government and culture on them.
Joe, i do study history, but I really have no clue where you found that info on the 500 chemical weapons being found... Could u point me to it only because i have been looking for research info on that. Im deciding whether or not my Masters project on American intervention in comtemporary world affairs. I dont consider news stations or CNN credible sources of historical information though so if it is something like that then it wont help me. The only reason im passionate about this subject is because as a Historian it is important for me to distinguish bias in a research paper. And as for the Media, there is no reliable information also they only play to peoples emotions...
I think if anything this thread proves that the Media plays to peoples emotions. I mean im sad to admit that i have gotten way to overzealous in my postings. So i guess it would be safe for me to appologise to anyone who I offended, but also to ask that some consideration be takend that my posts are not BS and im not just speaking from a College students point of view but from many points from History professors with PhD's. Anyway im gonna probably stop posting about this because no matter what is decided there is no wrong interpretation to history. Any answer can be right or wrong, pending the support and credible research involved

It has only been mentioned by Russian Intelligence. They could be trying to conjure anti-US support, they have supplied Iran and others with nuclear devices to make weapons, after all the President of Russia is former KGB. There is also some intel that Russia helped Iraq ship their WMD to Syria.
WMD's do include what is known as CBRN chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons or the Military NBC nuclear, biological, and chemical. Jeremy is right there have been chemical weapons found in Iraq they have found Sarin and Cyanide gas, Sarin found by accident by German scientist while trying to find a environmentally friendly pesticide for farmers and Cyanide extremely easy to make. A WMD as by Title 10 US Code, section 1403 <i>weapons or devices intended, or having the capability, to cause death or serious bodily injury to a significant number of people through the release, dissemination, or impact of toxic posionous chemicals or their precursors; a disease organism; or radiation or radioactivity.</i>
Now terrorist and countries such as Iran, Syria, Iraq, and N. Korea are very dangerous which is why went to war with Iraq, another those countries along with Cuba, Libya, and the Sudan were known as the 7 usual suspects. They are known as that because they are known and constant state sponsors of terrorism. Because, of the US decisive military victory neither Iraq or Libya are on that list. Now as stated earlier the media makes no mention of anything being a WMD unless it is a nuclear weapon.
There was even the 1st WMD attack that had sodium cyanide and its original intent was for the cyanide to be dispersed through the buildings ventilation system intending to kill many of the people in the building. Yet, there is little to no mention of that fact in the media. Why does that have anything to do with us now well that group was funded by Al Qaeda member Khaled Shaikh Mohammed. Now the main planner of the first WTC attack Ramzi Yousef has a uncle named Khalid Shaikh Mohammed Ali Fadden, who later was considered the principal architect of the 9/11 attacks. Also, Yousef obtained instruction on how to build the bomb by Iraqi bomb maker Abdul Rahman Yasin. All of these people in Al Qaeda and within Iraq were inter connected.
When the US talks about going to war with countries with WMD's there are 2 reasons I will mention. 1. The leader/ruling party and the country in general are dangerous. 2. They are known sponsors of terrorist. That is why N. Korea, Syria, and Iran scare us so much. Do any of them have ICBM's that can reach the US no not yet. But what they do have are terrorist willing to be suicide bombers or strap bombs to their kids to kill not only Americans and Jews but anyone who does not believe in their views of Islam.
Now many say the people in the Middle East hate us because of Iraq, which is untrue because they have always hated us, especially the West, and have made attempts to force people to believe or die for years, the Moors. In Iran for example children are taught from birth to hate Israel and the US as the 2 great evils. They are taught by parents, in school, and by the media to hate us that is just plain and simple. Now when I grew up Superman and Spiderman were heroes in comics and cartoons who would save those who needed saved and fight evil. In the Middle East kids have cartoons with suicide bombers as heroes who will jump from a cliff in the middle of a US or Israel convoy killing all those in the convoy including himself, that is what is ingrained as a hero to them that is why it so hard to fight them and we go after the nation-states that support terrorism because there is no specific targets with terrorist. But if you can control a country who gives safe haven, training and recruiting resources, help financially, and even WMD's you do that, and that can me dismantling the current regime and inhabiting that country until they are prepared to sustain themselves.
Now many people say that the US is an unwanted presence and that we are forcing our form of government on these countries, and if the people think that the citizens of some of these countries are happy under a dictatorship in Third World living conditions they are sorely mistaken.
I am former Military Intelligence with a BS in Homeland Security with a concentration in terrorism/counterterrorism and currently pursing a Masters in Strategic Intelligence with a concentration in Middle Eastern studies. While in the Army I spent time in Korea including the JSA/DMZ and on deployments in the Middle East. I hope to become a counterterrorism analyst or WMD analyst for a private government contractor, but I am waiting until I finished with my Master's and am able to have a grasp of the Arabic language, am only conversational now.

Your exactly right, to many people do put all their faith into the media. So when was the last time you heard the media report on something good that has came out of this?CaptainPioneer wrote:.
The largest problem that i find today with everyone approaching these issues is that they take them on face value and what is said in the media. Its just not smart. If you really want to understand conflict and war from both sides i suggest that you take the time to look analytically back at history in an unbiased way..
When was the last time the media told a story about a new school, or town that just got running water? How about a hospital?
Come on, Just name one time.
Well?
They don't. People don't want to hear about the good stuff, so the news doesn't report it.
So how did I get that 75%? I should have said 2/3 since thats probably closer, but hay.
I got it from people who have been there. Friends of mine that built the bridges, fixed the electrical, ran new water lines, and opened the new schools.
Oh and thank you for your support. I don't want you oh think I am trying to convert your views, or say your views or wrong. I just wanted to let you see the other side, since the media is so one sided.
CaptainPioneer, I know of a military document from October 2003 that states that chemical weapons were found within a weapons cache, but it was classified let me see if I can find it and has been de-classified. Also, to find different military information and some chemical weapon information look through some the information produced by Rand and Jane's. Both are scholarly journals and should be good resources to use in papers. Also, if you have not found it yet Google Books is a great resource to look up info in published books. You just type keywords like in a regular search and it will find books with the kind of information you are seeking. Plus it shows author, page number, and publisher everything you need to quote sources.

The current leaders in the US are really going to war for no reason. America shouldn't be policing the world, still don't know why we're in Iraq and now maybe Iran. Please don't say anything about terrorists for a few reasons... one a shitload of countries harbor terrorists, not ust Iraq or Iran and two http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... ange&hl=en got 90 minutes? I garuntee if you watch the video it's gonna really make you think and sway your opinion .... focus on minute 6 if you do end up watching it, the 'put options' in specific
Doesn't matter why. We broke it. We own it.brisgreat1 wrote:still don't know why we're in Iraq
I remember when hearing about our initial plans of invading Iraq I thought Bush was crazy. He may very well be, but whether it was the right decision? The jury's still out on that one and probably will be for decades to come. Its not about WMD's. Its about national security interests(yes oil) and a vision of a peaceful Middle East where those interests can be protected. For all Bush's faults the one thing that can be said is that he has balls, which is actually a quite refreshing attribute to see in one of today's "successful" politicians.
Just happens to scare the bejesus out of a lot of people as well.
