ok this guy i work with has a kicker zx300.1 and is looking for a new sub. He said he had an orion hcca 12 and loved it but he sold it. he wants a sub that will work well with that wattage, and will work well in a 1cf box. he said he wants sql and would like something at least comparable to a jl w3 but does not want to pay the jl price. Has anybodu heard the re sr series i saw they take 300 rms or even the re series
I had the pleasure of hearing an HCCA 12 in a professionally built ported enclosure inside a Sunfire. OMG that thing was loud, but sounded, err....... OK. It was powered by a JL 500/1 and did quite well, but if this is the same HCCA I'm familiar with it can handle a helluva lot more power. I don't know what this guy had powering his HCCA 12, but my guess he won't be happy with just any sub/amp combo. He's gonna want it LOUD and I'd put his tastes a little more on the SPL side of things.
Fi seems to be the flavor of the month. If he's gonna run a sealed enclosure how bout a SSD12?

1 ft^3 would probably be perfect. I'm just not sure if they play well sealed. Lemme break out WinISD.

Yeah the SSD12-d1 looks ok in 1ft^3. Its got an EBP of 51.9 which has it leaning toward the sealed side of the equation. You get a Qtc .842. and a Fsc of 49 Hz. Some SQ guys shoot for a Qtc of .707, but that would require 2 ft^3. Anyone heard these guys sealed? 300 watts should be enough power to reach Xmax in a sealed box with that alignment, no? I know the SSD's don't seem to be hailed as SQ subs, but who knows. Its replacing a HCCA 12 after all.

That is seriously underpowering that sub, but it wont hurt it. The only way you could hurt it is clipping that small amount of power. Just to be more efficient with his money, I would look elsewhere for a more lower line sub. The RE subs you mentioned, either of them would work... it is just finding them at a decent price because the retail prices on any of RE's subs are rediculous since US Amps bought them out.

Does he plan on ever gettin a "better" amp. 300 watts ain't a whole lot these days. I do know that sealed subs in fairly low q enclosures usually reach Xmax pretty darn quick, usually at a lot less than their rated thermal power handling. Still, havin a bit of headroom is always nice.coot wrote:i have a 15 ssd have not built the box for it yet going to be 4cf at 33hz, but the 12's rms is 800 watts can only running 300 hurt itan anyway? and what does winISD say about the 15 sealed they dont have any recomendations for sealed
Gimme a bit and I'll check on the 15.
[EDIT] Both SSD15's seem to be designed for sealed enclosures, but that doesn't mean they won't have some serious output ported. They just may not sound as "good". BTW both SSD15's need 5+ft^3 for a qtc less than .8 which may be why there's not a recommended sealed enclosure. EBP is not the only factor to consider when choosing an enclosure type.
