Excessive Current
I have 2 alpine type rs with a V12 mrd-m1005 ( alpine amp) and if i trun the amp gain, bass, hz all the way up and turn the volume up all the way on the cd player the amps shuts off the the amp say CUR on the screen ( to much excssive current). my question what happening when it does this. ( that speakers cant handle the load or what b/cuz if i turn the amp down i can turn the volume up a litte more. but i dont wanna feel like im not gettin the most power as possiable out of the speakers and there anyway to stop or anyway around this problem

ok ok, now problem one that most new people dont know about car audio. THE GAIN IS NOT A VOLUME KNOB!!! By turning the gain up all the way like you said you are compromising everything. Speakers amplifier heck even your head unit. The gain can go that far, but your not suppose to do it. Number 2 never turn the bass all the way up on the head unit another great way to break your speakers with a clipped signal. The volume should also never go all the way up horribly clipped signal the volume should go up to 75% maximum and you set your gain accordingly. This is what you need to do. You need to first put the volume on the cd player to 75% and adjust the Gain on the amplifier with a DMM to be sure your not going to blow your speakers or fry your amplifier. REad in the Faqs on this site how to use a DMM 15 bucks at walmart!! Your lucky you have fairly good equipment becuase miss use such as this is a quick way to no longer have any equipment!
mmmm inverted 18!!!!:bow

wow....im surprised those type r's arent blown yet. Im guessing you have no idea how to properly set your gains. First, if you dont have a 45 hz test tone, you can go to http://www.realmofexcursion.com, select downloads at the top, and download a 45 hz tone. Then create it into a cd, and play it in your stereo, also known as a head unit or, hu using 75% volume. Now get your hands on a voltmeter and set it to AC voltage. Your amplifier is capable of 1000w rms, so to determine the amount of ac voltage your amplfier will put out, take the square root of ohm load x watts rms (in your case the ac voltage would be 44.7. This means that when you hook up the wires of the voltmeter to your amplfier speaker outputs, you should turn it up to no more than 44.7. Now, turn the bass boost all the way down as it will not be necessary, hook up the voltmeter wires, and with your head unit playing a 45hz test tone and gradually turn your gain up untill you reach this number. Be sure to turn the "hz" to roughly 80-100. Now you can enjoy your audio system with the knoledge that it wont blow
my buddy has a alpine deck and amp in his 4runner..
both have "speaker savers"
they completely shut off if its sending to much to the speakers.
i dont remember wut its set at, but i think on the deck it was around 35 on the volume after about 1 minites it would shut itself off..
the amp i have no idea, wut it shut off at. that kid did just like u and cranked everything all the way up
