Actually, it reminded me of when Jason White got the Heisman...we couldn't convert the National Championship then just like Troy Smith couldn't convert for his team either. Score was similar too.

Kudo's to Florida..I stand corrected...now I have to go vomit.

There was holding on that, but I imagine nobody will fuss about it with that bad an outcome haha.

That was one of the best coached national championship games I've seen (Urban Meyer's behalf, obviously). Meyer and his staff knew that team like the back of his hand going into that game. You could see OSU digging and digging into their playbook and Florida's defenders were all over them on every single play. 82 yards is bad enough to just call it a shutdown, the defensive play was flawless. Offense was creative, they kept them off balance, they ate the clock up, didn't get greedy, and didn't make mistakes.

Heisman winning quarterbacks hardly ever win national championships, most don't even make good NFL prospects. Not just recently, but in the history of college football. I feel it's due to the nature of how the Heisman is awarded, it's given to "outstanding" players. If you stand out, it's either because you're a phenominal player (rare) or because those surrounding you are just "OK" (common). Balanced football teams win championships. Heisman winners usually don't play in balanced football teams, they usually play in teams that they have to make plays for, or they play in a weak conference where it's easy to shine due to a lack of opposition. I think it's that more than a "jinx" or the banquets and such. Plus, heisman winners might as well be wearing a bullseye on their chest because there's nothing an underdog would rather do than embarrass them. Add the fact that if that QB is the main reason the team is successful, it makes them that much easier to beat because it's pretty easy to pressure and rattle just one guy. Carson Palmer was the first successful heisman winning QB since the 1970s.

Troy Smith is a good QB, though, despite being a bit small I'm sure he'll be drafted pretty quickly. Probably the first QB to be drafted will be LSU's Jamarcus Russell. He's easily as efficient, very accurate, very calm under pressure, and probably has the strongest arm in the NCAA. He can throw it 85 yards accurately.

Brady Quinn is the other, but it was pretty easy for him to look good with that cashmere soft schedule. Notre Dame is consistently the most overrated school in the NCAA. They always get a media push and are ranked way too high for the shitty teams they've had over the last few years. Performance speaks for itself. Hey, maybe that's why they've lost 9 consecutive bowl games. That's not a good thing because it means whatever good team is lucky enough to play them first has the opportunity beat the shit out of them and rack up plenty of BCS points in the process. This year Michigan was that team. Notre Dame being ranked #2 before the season was just retarded.

I'm a big WVU and Rutgers fan and I'd take WVU QB Pat White any day over Troy Smith. He's taller, quicker, has a cannon for an arm and he has the heart of a warrior.
Pat White for the '07 Heisman! :thumbsup

What works in college doesn't necessarily work in the NFL.

Pat White is talented, but their offense (modernized single wing) is done so due to his specific abilities, and is pretty one-dimensional. While he is an incredible athlete, his talents aren't really what most NFL teams are looking for because an option offense doesn't work well at all in the NFL. It's mainly due to the fact that the defenders are too fast, too smart, and are too well coached to bite on it. Spread options, single wing, triple options, etc. just don't work, you can't base an offense on misdirection as much in the NFL due to the discipline of the players.

That's mainly why the quarterbacks that are drafted first are the ones that are more "traditional", based mostly on their decision-making, their intelligence in reading a defense, and their accuracy in a wide variety of situations.
