Exactly - but that's exactly WHY a thread on "slew rate" and "damping factor" would be so valuable - you wouldn't be standing on the sidelines of the tennis court watching Itsa Importante lob the ball back and forth with Noah Itsnot... you could actually understand the issues, what each is defined to be - and then make up your OWN mind.

That's what knowledge is.

Along those same lines - I'd love to have a thread discussing speaker and subwoofer "sensitivity"... and if it can be meaningful for one, why isnt' it meaningful for the other? Where's the line? What's the issue? :thumbsup

For one that I would find interesting to delve into - possibly speaker wire. We've got a tremendously high RFI environment, in a car... seems like there would be more risk than in the home. And I've always been a proponent of the "lamp cord is as good as speaker wire" movement, but there are people spending thousands of dollars on speaker wire, in the high end home world... there must be SOME logic there - let's learn it!

i'd also like to look into using damplifier to fight off alien & government mind control attemps while driving. *puts tin foil hat back on*

I really need to learn how to read subwoofer data, and decide whether or not the total air space in the car will perform well with a certain subwoofer, and the amount of air space it needs with in its box. I also need to learn about subwoofer sensitivity. One major one i have always over looked due to lack of time or patients is the front stage. I am horrible at staging components have no idea how to do it well, except for guess and check.

And figuring out the logic... if any... behind them :thumbsup

And I gotta say that the forward staging has not always been my high point... I can make a car sound good for customers, but would love to someday build a vehicle that has the best mix of both worlds that could compete in sq or spl :)

I have one for the masters. What is the best way to image a sound stage. I can do it, it just takes to damn long. There has to be a method or pattern that can be used to speed things up.

Yeah I know bout Jonathan’s post about it, but my car has a center console so it wouldn't work.

I would like to know more about forward imaging as well.

I would like to better understand how sub specs interact with enclosure design.

From what I have gathered, pathlengths is your primary focus to start out with. You want to try to find a spot where the pathlengths from your primary speakers(mainly midrange) are equidistant from your listening location. Next is all about experimenting with imaging. I truly believe there is no absolute formula for imaging....period. You have to experiment. Then there is time alignment, but that can seriously hurt the width of your stage.
