6.5" Component Advice

Post by slick94prix »

Picked up another car since I'm selling the Acura, and plan on going ahead and planning on the new system in the vehicle.

Wattage makes absolutely no difference to me. I would prefer a silk tweeter. I already have a set of titanium tweeters, and they are too damn sharp for my ears. Depth isn't too much of concern, I can make brackets if need be. The tweeters will need to be 1" max to fill the factory tweeter location.

Money wise, I'd really like to keep it under $140-$150, mainly because I'm in college, and I don't need to break the bank or have the greatest SQ in the world, just something far superior to stock :) . I've been checking out onlinecarstereo.com and found some pretty good deals.

I probably won't buy for another month or two, but I'm trying to figure out what all I'm going to be looking at in this car.

Thanks!

Does the new car have 6.5"s or 5.25"s or are you using/ making kicks or adapters for either... when you're ready, don't forget I'm in your back yard and can give ya a good deal ;) After all you were there to help us out.

The stockers are GM "component" 6.5's with 1" tweeter. It's actually a 2000 Bonneville, and wierdly enough, when you pull the door panel off, the stock speakers are mounted to the actual panel itself. I plan on putting a few layers of sound deadening on the actual door itself along with around the speaker on the panel, then mounting the aftermarkets back onto the panel. I could mount the aftermarkets to the actual door, but I actually haven't had it apart yet to inspect what I really have to work with(if I can make a bracket and cut the stock mounts off of the door panel or who knows). The factory tweeters, from pictures that I have seen, come out very easily, and replacing them will be no big deal.

BTW, find a set of components in that price range with some sort of adjustable crossover would be awesome, but I guess I can always hit up ebay for the JL adjustable crossovers after I get the comps.

I'll keep you in mind. BTW, what all do you carry?

You just need the proper wiring harness... If you look it up at American International you'll see the GWH346 (this is the one most places carry and is wrong) and the GWH346R (this is the one required for that install). :)

I most likely won't use that harness, and will be running all my own leads. The stock wiring is like 18 guage, I'll use 12-14 guage for a bit more power flow to the deck for *hopefully* higher voltage out of the RCA's.

BTW, the 2000+ Bonne's have 3 grounds and 2 constants. No need for that when I just run my own lines.

Michael, do you have a website of all the products that you carry? I'd really love to see everything that you have!

I dont think that the Larger guage wiring to For leads will really affect the RCA voltage output in a significant way... Personally i think you are doing more work than what is needed and the Harness would be a better option

i dont know i will always run my own wires when im doing components. and u dont really need the harness if your amping the speakers because all you use is power ground and turn on.
