A question about dynamat

it definately works great.. what did you read exactly? it was probably that it didnt stick or smelt? well those arent true, maybe in some cases.. i didnt even clean some of the stuff i put the Peel and Seal on, and it stuck fine, and Wont come off easy at all.. but i suggest cleaning the surface first, but dont use soapy water or nothin.. also make sure you use a roller or something to smash it down(fist, screw driver, mallet, whatever)... also use small sections, like 6" or so at a time, so its easier to work with, because if it sticks to somethin, its a B!tch to get off, lol.. also, some peope use a heat gun or a blow dryer to make it stick to the metal better, but personally, if i was going to do that, id take a 60grit or so piece of sand paper, and take it across the metal a few times so theres marks in it, and the sound deadening will stick better... also Peel And Seal if i remember, is less than $15... and Protec-O-Wrap is basically the same, i have not used it or seen it, but its the same ive been told, but just a different silver backing it seems.. and to cut the Peel and Seal, i suggest a box cutter(utility knife) and make sure you have some extra blades, or use some scissors, but you will end up cleaning them to get the tar off, so use a pair you dont care about.. umm, and i guess thats it..

The best way to prep the surface is to take a rag with some solvent (something to remove any oil or grease) and wipe everything down. Just make sure the solvent won't mess up your paint if you get it on the wrong spot. Sandpaper works good to, but you still need to wipe it down before appling the sound dampener.

Oh yeah, 60 grit will work, but its actually way to rough. 100 or 150 will work just fine.

Yes, it does work. Protect-o-wrap is the same thing as P&S. I think P$S has a flat aluminum side, where protect-o-wrap have a cross-weaved typed thing going (seen in the 3rd pic). The trunk lid was done without cleaning or applying heat and stayed there until I decided to try removing it (still haven't go all of it off).
I have a video on R.O.E. of a dancing 2 liter coca-cola bottle. Half the trunk lid was done, other half wasn't. If you pay attention, you can see the difference between both sides. Guess I need to find the link, huh?

Oh, also as a test I put 2 pieces aprox 6" x6" under the car's trunk. This is under the car where it'll get a lot of dirt, debris, and crap. Those 2 pieces have been there for a couple years now. The area was also not cleaned and heat wasn't used to apply it.

Protect-O-Wrap is .40mils or .42mils thick if I remember right. Price down here is about $18 for a roll that's 6" x 25'. And I would recommend it to anybody that wants good, cheap, sound deadening.

WOW cool. Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. All of this looks really good. Everything rattles at the rear of my car some I'm hopin to fix that here pretty soon.

That video is misleading Bryan. Don't fall for it. Because Kedge has deadner on either side, it will be the most deadened. The two outer types have the rest of the metal surrounding them on either the right or left sides, and that will yield a different sound.

Dynamat Pro is the best out there, but, it is also the most expensive. The second best is SecondSkin Pro and you can get it for about half the price of Dynamat.

As long as the dampner is using a rubber compound for adhesive, it won't matter whether it is Dynamat pro or Peel and Seal. The reason that Dynamat Pro is better than all the rest, is that it is thicker...that is all. If you can get Peel and Seal so cheap, buy 200sqft and double up on the application.

The ones to avoid are the types that still use an asphault adhesive. You will smell it on hot days and it is kind of dangerous. You can get light headed from the vapors. So be careful.-

thats a bad test. somewhere on the internet there is a site that tested several different deadeners.. can't remeber it though. ss damplifier pro and dynamat extreme came out on top though.

I may be able to get that Peel & Seal stuff at cost, Gonna have to check on a few things when I get into the shop monday. If I can I may buy a HUGE bulk order and just have anyone who wants some cover the S&H/cost of crap.
I'm not sure it'll come out cheaper than just purchasing at your local store but worth a shot.

If you really need to do this in the absolutely least expensive way and are not convinced or concerned by the demonstrated inferiority of asphalt based sound deadeners, go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a roll or two of Peel & Seal. This is the least expensive option and you won't have to worry about shipping costs. I can see no difference in Peel & Seal and the asphalt based aluminum skinned products in this review. If you are going to live dangerously, do it right.

Am I do understand that Peel & Seal is an asphalt based adhesive?
