I've an avid motorcycle rider (Yamaha FZ6). I've went down unfortunately once and I'll tell you right now if I wasn't hearing a helmet I wouldn't be here right now. I slid 100+ ft on my helmet alone! The helmet law should be in effect and the chrome domes should be outlawed. I'm sorry but its just dumb to me to not wear a helmet. The airbag ordeal, look at the new Honda Goldwing it has an airbag built into it!! Its the craziest thing I've ever seen. The airbag vest to me is a bad idea but I wear a one-peice leathers so hopefully that'll protect me. The seatbelt thing will never work because it'd just be too unsafe. Part of wrecked on a bike is sliding off of it and sliding down the road. If we had seatbelts it would turn a low side into not having any legs because they'd get crushed under the bike and you'd slid with the burning bike on you.
I like Ryan am an ex-bike rider... I had to give it up because of my brain surgery a few years back... left me with a lil twinge in my neck so I don't trust myself on 2 wheels anymore.
I have gone with and without helmets and have had a couple spills... but nothing too serious.
Hope to one day build myself a trike so I'm still on board.
I do agree with Joe... Helmets till you turn 21 (and if over 21, hemlet 1st year rider).
Seat belts really stupid... The 2 spills I did have would have killed me if I was tied to the bike. I slid about 10ft. and the bike about 50-70ft. and yes on of those times was with no helmet.
Airbag vest doesn't seem to be all that useful of an idea either... rather than a tuck and roll slide it could easily turn into a end over end roll if it stays inflated.
Airbags on the side of bike itself would be a great idea though...
1- Your leg won't get trapped under the bike in a lay down
2- Might save you from having to repaint the bike :)

your choice, not mine.....i have a helmet and i wear it when i want to.....and i dont mean this next part seriously but you say chrome domes should be outlawed and its silly to you not to wear a helmet, but do you realize in your full leathers and matching helmet you look like a power ranger?

somedays I need one
But how often are you running at 50+ mph?
How often are you sliding around a turn at a 30degree angle praying that your tires don't hit something slick.
Don't get me wrong I'm all about self-preservation and being able to choice. I can't believe that elementary schools aren't allowing kids to play tag and what not because of law suits.
