Help your old buddy Motorcycle Mike out Please repost this.
Body: I would like all my friends to help me out if you don't mind. As some of you may know, I am active with various political organizations who work to protect motorcyclists rights in this country. Many of you may not know that the federal government is positioning it's self to introduce a MANDATORY HELMET LAW. Even more shocking is they also have plans to require SEATBELTS on a motorcycle.I know it sounds crazy. Now it gets worse. There is also plans to require motorcyclists to wear a special vest that has AIR BAGS built into it. I'M NOT MAKING THIS SHIT UP.
I have two things I ask of you. First is immediately find the local motorcycle rights organization in your state and join and participate. Please do this for yourself and all of us. The federal government will destroy this industry, just like it destroyed the chopper industry in the 1970s with legislation. Thats right! Choppers didn't go out of style. Uncle Sam put them out of business and it took guys like Jesse James, OCC, Indian Larry, and Billy Lane to revive it.
If you can't find a motorcyclist rights organization in your state, message me and I will find one for you.
The second thing I ask of all you good people is to start directing any other motorcyclists and ATV people on my link on myspace and encourage them to ADD ME to their friend list. I will be dispersing any information about government plans to ruin your motorcycling experience. We're all in this together. Thank you. I love all you guys and gals. Motorcycle Mike

Sounds like Michigan...
I about rode my bike into work in the summer, but decided against it as I dont care for Helmets.
Then again I hated to ride on higways also...lol
I will find his info and post it on one of the motorcycle boards Im on.
Beign a former bike owner I understand how stupid most of this is. The helmet law, well that might not be to bad of a law really. Bad thing is it takes away a choice of ours...

i dont always wear a helmet, i will on the interstate but that is mostly because i wear contacts and my eyes dry out at higher speeds....but if it gets too out of control it will wind up like the seat belt laws, when was the last time you thought about it when you got in your car, i dont wear my seatbelt either but thats just habit....hell when they passed the law i had takent the seat belts out of the truck i had at the time.....i changed seats and they never made it back in....

speaking from a paramedic view on things, I think Mandatory helmets should be considered. But from a motorcyclist point of view, we should be able to make up our own damn mind. I could see a mandatory helmet law for ages 14-21 so that we can at least help out the not-so-hip-on-highway safety sect, but for adults 22-up...hell no. I have heard of the airbag vest thing, it is going to be an option on all BMW motorcycles starting 2008 if I remember correctly, but I can't see them being used permanently. Mostly cause of the fact that an airbag inflates in milliseconds, and deflates nearly as quickly, doing absolutely nothing for the rider after initial impact.
From the paramedic standpoint, nothing is worse than seeing someone's brains all over the highway as a result of too fast without a helmet.
on the flip-side of this argument, I also ran a call where the motorcyclist was wearing full leathers, gloves, race boots and helmet, hit the side of an overpass, then we found the helmet about 400yrds away with head still intact.
we are all adults here, so let us make the decisions. If we can drink at 21, make it legal to decide on whether to use a helmet at that age too.
