problem with a DEH-P6800MP

Post by Laparka22 »

I have a Pioneer Premier DEH-P6800MP. As of now I don't have an amp hooked up, just 4 6X9 hooked to the HE. Problem is when I play some songs the Display will Dim with the music, will even cut out, kinda like it's starving for power. Does this alot while the car isn't running, some while running. I thought my Battery might be low, but checked and it's fine, starter doesn't drag or none of that. Can anyone help?

I would suggest checking your wiring... Possibly even the connections at the speakers... I have a DEH 7700 and a 5800 and have put both of them through their paces and never had any kind of problem like that except when I accidentally hooked a speaker output to the remote for the factory amp :P

Wherever your power wire is coming from (fusebox or whatnot), the wire probably isn't large enough. I would run a separate power wire from the battery. Getting a new battery will help too (something more powerful)

Double check your factory fuse... It may be too small, if you've never replaced it someone before you may have just thrown whatever they had in there (should be at least a 15amp if not larger pending whats hooked to it)... or as stated above run the power wire right to the battery.

The fuse shouldn't have anything to do with it. If the fuse was too small, it'd just blow and you wouldn't get ANY power through. The fuse doesn't act as a choke.

I've run into 2 different cars that it did... although they were both Hondas 1 Civic and 1 Prelude... I even thought it odd, but they were both only shy by 5 amps and putting in the right fuse fixed the problem on both.

Well, it could be the fuse. It might be just before the blow/break point on it and it's not pulling that little more it needs to blow it.
