Is there a 1DIN headunit that plays MP3s from DVD?
Is there a 1DIN headunit that plays MP3s from DVD?
I was doing some research into 1DIN headunits under $500 that can play MP3s from DVDs and I thought that the DVA-9860 was my hot ticket to MP3 nirvana. That is - until I read the instruction manual. From what I can gather, it seems that the unit only plays DVD-Video (not DVD-Audio, or DVD-Data disks). What's the deal with that? Why would you go through the trouble of making a headunit that can play MP3s and DVDs, but not MP3s on DVDs? Or am I horribly mistaken?
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Also, I noticed a while back (maybe 2 years?) Alpine offered a headunit (9554 IIRC?) that played MP3s from CD, but came with no built-in amplifier. This seems like a pretty neat idea for those SQ fanatics.... does anyone else make something like that these days?
Thanks!

Ok, I just realized that the DVA-9861 does what I want. Unfortunately, it costs $100 more - but still within the price range. I'll bet the cheaper 9860 has everything it needs to play DVD-mp3, but they gimped the unit so they could charge more for those features. Its probably just a firmware update anyways.
I'm still interested in alternatives if anyone has any. Thanks :)

Whoa, I just checked out JVC's website on these units and they seem REALLY cool with a good price point.Justin from Detroit wrote:Yup. I dunno what your price range is, but for around $300 you can get yerself a JVC KD-AVX2. Amazing unit, wish I never sold mine.
I don't know if its just me... but I had never really equated JVC with good SQ. Is this new line special, or am I mistaken?
Also, where might I be able to pickup an AVX2?
Edit: woofersetc.com has them, and they're right down the street from me. Sweet!

You won't be disappointed with that JVC... and actually they have been known for good SQ for quite some time, even on their lower lines.
