Components, under 150 dollars

Post by ZeroAccess »

Been looking around on EBay and seen the deals for the
CADENCE CWM6-KIT ALUMINUM ALLY 6.5" COMPONENT KIT

Pushing components w/ 125watts max 250

Stock Locations on a Mazda Protege5
Listen to: Rock,Techno,Rap,Country
Volume Levels: high
Sub: Fi q15
Rear Fill: Pioneer 6x8 with Sony HU

I'm not expecting TOP of the line for 150 bucks or so but I'd like the best I can get for my money, I'm expecting higher volume levels with no distortion and being able to keep up with midbass.

best for the money, for that price, definately the CL-61A - CDT Audio Classic 6.5" 2-Way Component Speakers from Woofersetc..they are cheap, and i love mine and you get a free spool of nice Monster 16 gauge speaker wire.

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?cur ... EFDF4B0F64

you can go through all the CDT's they have a set for even $99!..

Most likely, any 150$ comp set isn't going to give you very clean sound at high levels. You're also going to need large power on tap for the transients at high levels.

Edit: Then again, what we consider "high levels" may differ. :)

Solace, if I'm pushing 125rms 240max wouldn't I blow those Peerless speakers?
I know I know, I could just turn the gain down some but what the heck I got the power may as well use it.

Looking at these
CDT Audio CL-61A-25 PRO - CDT Audio Classic 6.5" 2-Way Components
Silk tweets, 150rms ..that'll be a contender thank you Scarrell

And I'd probally agree with you on the high levels I just want it to when someone pulls up beside me and we both have our windows down I won't hear their music they'll hear mine. That is unless an audio nut pulls beside me lol.

125rms with impedance rise and parasitic powerloss through the cross over you will be lucky if that is 80rms

I think you'll be deaf before you send all the power your amp is capable of to the speakers. However, as you turn the volume knob up, between your the amp and speakers, there's bound to be distortion introduced. The reason you want higher power is to handle the large spikes or transients.
Say your listening habits require 10W to each speaker. You might be peaking on transients around 100W to each speaker. So you just went from 40W total draw to a 400W spike.
That's all hypothetical of course, and the draw and transients would be dependant on the material that you're playing, but the example shouldn't be too far from reality. Headroom helps.
Just as basis for any of that, I am running a Bravox Diamond 5.25 set. I think it's rated at like 60W. I took the set and ran it active and am currently running it with 125W to each driver (previously 150W to each passive crossover). I did notice an improvement at higher volumes. Not huge, but noticable enough.
In regards to the speakers, I've never used either the CDTs or the Peerless, but I know Peerless makes quality products. That's what I was basing my recommendation on.

i dont think there would be much imp. rise.. the magnets on them arent that big.. and if im not mistaken... the bigger the magnent the more it will rise around the vc.. and im sure theres many other reasons.

I can't seem to find much info on the crossover used in those CL-61As. I wouldn't be too worried about impedance. If it was that big of an issue, they would have used an impedance correction in the crossover (or maybe they wouldn't care, because it is their lower line :) ).
I did notice on the WoofersEtc.com site, however, that they have a 100hz HPF.

your impedance will be effected by more than just the magnet such as frequency, tempetures, length of wire the enclosure and tons of other factors. remember music is dynamic so you wont be getting all 125w all the time.
