portable DVD player to play through speakers?

Post by lotas »

hey guys Im going to be purchasing a portable DVD player here pretty soon and I was wondering if there is a way to get the audio to play out of my car speakers. Im wondering if this part will work:

http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?c ... id=12-2057

basically converting the headphone jack into a pair of RCAs to plug into my Rear RCAs in my HU?

so yeah just let me know if a.) its possible and b.) if that part will work.

thanks

better off using a head unit with an AUX input or a head unit that takes DVDs to begin with.
your option is only going to give stereo output, not 5.1, and it's not going to sound that terrific, not to mention you really don't want to watch DVDs in a moving car. It's distracting, and often illegal.

I think this would work perfectly fine. But of course you would not be able to enjoy the multichannel surround sound.

And I'm not too sure if any portable dvd players have pre-amp RCA outputs. It's not surprising I've not come across any since that would take away from the general purpose of it being portable.

But why not save up some money for a true DVD-capable system?

A high-end mobile home theater project would be awesome!

But of course, there is something slightly wrong about having an A/V system that's worth more than most houses in a car...

to answer some questions...

for the most part it would be for parking in the country and watching movies with girls etc. the other use would be for road trips for other people to view etc. In fact where I plan on putting it is not really viewable by the driver unless they were to lean their chair really far back etc. so no worries about distraction.

kiki, my hu is a pioneer deh 8600mp, it has an aux. input or output but what wire do i need to look for?

I was going to put in my home DVD player and buy a monitor but that is going to be more expensive.

and nist i dont have that kind of money to spend, plus i just bought a new HU that i love and I couldnt bring myself to spend that much money on something like that. if I get this wire for $20 or so this project will only cost me under $200 and the DVD will be portable.

thanks

if you have an AUX input, just use the line out or ehadphone jack on the portable DVD player and go right into the AUX input of the Pioneer.
problem sovled, and the Pioneer becomes the volume control.
great if you have wireless remote capability for the passenger.

correct me if im wrong but the aux input on the HU is the connection like the end of a telephone line (dunno what it would be called) and the headphone is a small male plugin. Do you have any idea what this might be called? ill be searching pioneers site.

lotas, what you could do is connect your portable dvd player directly into your amp. but of course, that would be a hassel to setup and control.

but maybe you need this ?

You're on the right track nist7, but those are outputs rather than inputs. What lotas is looking for is this: http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=piocdrb10

There is a model that is $50, but its only difference is that it has an IP Bus through.
