Seperate batt.
I saw some guy today with a simple dual 12" system... instead of using a cap(that he really didnt need in the first place) he ran a 1/0 ga wire from his batt primary to the trunk and hooked it up to another batt he had back there and ran the neg from the extra batt just to a ground location and hooked his amp up to the extra batt. why would he do this? any thoughts

some guys will run an isolator to have a seperate battery for the cars electronics but if hes not running one he may just want the extra reserve.......dont know for sure without any more specifics on the system.....two 12's with a monster amp could be a killer setup but i would hope in this case he has upgraded his alternator

I use a starter battery, then have two parallel yellow top deep cycle batteries in the trunk. the deep cycles are isolated with a battery regulator so the starter battery isn't drained by the audio system, and I have the full current of the two deep cycles to burn through with the car turned off before I need to start the car so the alternator can recharge everything.
probably similar to what this guy is doing.
