buying another mustang.
I always liked fox bodies for the fact that they were dirt cheap, pretty lightweight for their size, and had huge performance potential for low cash outlay. You can spend under $3000 and outhandle a brand spanking new Corvette Z06 if you want to. It doesn't take a whole lot to put the thing in the 11s or even 10s on pump gas if you know what you're doing.
FWIW, I'd go with AFR heads over the Trick Flows. And a roller cam from comp cams coupled with their beehive valve springs, especially if you're staying N/A.
If you go carb'd, I'd go with a Barry Grant carb with a Edelbrock Performer RPM air gap for street use.
Last but not least, no replacement for displacement. Obviously you need to optimize power and efficiency from the size engine you have, but in the end more power comes from more displacement. It can come in the form of more cubic inches or by means of forced induction (or both
) , your choice

Just so you know - I HATE YOU! Now you're making me reconsider a 351c. If I do go that route I'll go carbed.Jonathan wrote:FWIW, I'd go with AFR heads over the Trick Flows. And a roller cam from comp cams coupled with their beehive valve springs, especially if you're staying N/A.

The only thing that makes me want to go with the 351c over the 5.0 is the 5.0's computer, unless I change from speed density to mass air I'm limited to a the stock cam (or atleast a really small one.)
The 87 has a great running 5.0, I could just clean it up and replace all the gaskets and Im sure it would run along time. I thought about just tearing it apart and do a quick freshing up on it, ported gt 40 heads and intake along with a decent cam (e303?).
So right now I'm trying to decent, fairly mild 5.0, or a wicked 351c?
I want ot to be able to be street friendly and atleast decently fast. I'd be happy if I could get into the high 12's... I think I could do that on a stock block with the ported gt 40 heads and intake along with a good cam and 4:10 gears, of course I'd have the normal bolt ons, exhaust (headers), and a little weight reduction.
I can get complete motors for 175 at the local pick and pull, so I could pull a complete explorer gt40 motor and have ALOT of extra parts. I could sell extra stuff I dont need (block, a/c pump, alternator, starter, ect -ect) and come close to making my money back so I can basically get the heads and intakes for free...
If I go with the 351c I know Im going to end up dumping a few grand into the motor, then the t5 wouldnt hold up even with the world class guts so I'd have to spend another grand or two on a better tranny, but of course then I would have a really bad ass car....... It just be until a few years before I could drive it.
Im almost leaning towards the dd budget build, I think it would make me plenty happy (and maybe keep me alive and ticket free)

Just go with the budget build man. Consider this do you want to drive the car this summer or 2 summers from now. Also, do you want to spend $1000 or $5000 on the engine alone. Also, what you could do is the budget build on the current engine, and also buy another engine to use in the future for your more radical build, when you have the need for more power than you'll ever need.
