Before you buy anything I would test drive everything youre willing to consider.

I still say look into the 2.3 liter ranger super cabs. Theyre not fast but they are reliable and cheap. Or if you want a little more ommmpphhh go with the 4.0's... My sister has a 95 explorer with 230,000 miles and its still going very strong.

I've had 2 s-series trucks with 4.3's and 1 astro van (should of kept that, it was a 91 with 58,000 orginal miles). I think the 4.3s are hit and miss, some have good luck with the and some dont, for the most part I've had good luck with mine.

My cousin has had 2 dakotas and his mom has had one. he had a 97 and 00, both 3.9's and 5 speeds. They are pretty good little engines... The front ends are what gives him the most trouble, ball joints, tie rods and wheel bearings, its a common thing on theses.. Both have been pretty good trucks... His mom had a 03 and it was a piece of crap. The glove box about fell off within the first month. the tranny shifted funny from day one. It had the 4.7 v8 in it and it wont even break the tires loose. :p They only kept it until 30,000 or so miles and by then it was ready to fall apart, maybe it was just a lemon?

I've had a couple rangers with the 2.3 liters and they are easily the best trucks I ever owned. At the time I wasnt exactly the easiest on vehicles but they never really failed me. The last one (an 88 super cab) I beat on for a 1.5 years and then sold it to my cousin who beat on it for another 6-8 months, and he sold it to my uncle who has had it for the last year or so and he uses it to haul junk cars all the time... Stong little trucks, they might not get you there the fastest, but they are sure to get you there.

i found a 2000 ranger with the 4.0 at a dealership today.. little worried because its under 100,000 miles.. and it seems that fords seem to have problems at the 100,000 area. PLus my friend just recently started having problems with his ranger (with the 4.0, i think...).. but then he is rought with it.

You didn't check out the S-10 more to find out mileage, price, and what not?

yeah, the dealer wouldn't talk to me because i'm under 18 for a few more days. they didn't have any info posted on the s-10 like they did the ranger..and the ranger didn't have a price.

Is there a law down there that says someone under 18 can't drive the car with the dealer in it?
