I've been driving since I was 15 and didn't have my own car until I was 18 (I'm almost 22). I've only gotten one ticket, which was a stop sign violation and was complete bs. I had it thrown out of court, so I have no tickets on record.

I never usually go faster than 5 miles above (in the city) or 10 miles above (on the interstate). Unless someone is dying or about to die, there is no reason to get somewhere as fast as you can. My g/f is like this, whenever she drives, you have to get there as fast as you can. I can't stand it when she bitches at me if I'm driving my normally. I always ask, "what is your hurry?"

I have to agree with Michael here and be the parent, since my son is older than you are.

I made a bet with my son that if he could go one year without a ticket, he would get 100 dollars. My son started driving October 31st, 2005 and I just gave him a crispy new 100 dollar bill on Halloween. Now had he gotten a ticket during that first year, not only would he not gotten the money, he would have gotten grounded from his car and his cell phone taken away. IF he was busted for doing what you were doing, the only way he would be driving again, is buying his own car. Not one I gave to him to use.

IMO, as a former paramedic and current Dad, if you don't respect the laws placed, whether anyone was around or not, you don't respect the privalege to drive...PERIOD!

My son knows that driving his car is a privalege set forth by me. Just merely having a driver's license isn't enough...it is the respect you show the law and your peers by driving within those laws that make you a good driver. Without that respect, you are just a spoiled punk who has no respect for themself, the laws or the other people around them.

Well I must admit, I drive a little fast on the highways, but on city streets I stay within limits. Other than scaring the crap out of Joe at "4-way" stops lmao, I must admit I was exagerating after that first little mishap. Anyways, I did my share of fast driving when I was younger, just lucky enough to not get caught. Most of my troubles came from my exhaust on my mustang, they loved that, and I eventually went to court over it.(old school dual flowmasters 2.5", exiting in front of tires on either side :p ) As far as doing twice the speed limit, um no, not condoned. I am sure you have been bashed enough, and will learn your lesson when you go to court. Now just go prove to them you won't do it again! :)

O.K. Here's my story and I'm sure it will cheer you all up.
First ticket, age 16, doing 2-3mph over the speed limit (No that's not a typo, I actually said two to three miles per hour).
The cop was a friend of the family, and knew that I had got my license 2 days before my 16th birthday (it used to be that you took the test and then they mailed you your license), so I was technically not supposed to be driving back and forth to school, but I was, so "my buddy" the cop pulls me over and issues me a ticket for going 2 mph over the speed limit and dated it for 2 days later. So for my birthday present I had to pay my very first ticket... I think it was something like $10-15 bucks back then with court costs, but even the judge got a good laugh :p

Its called a race track people, thats where you race around, not on the street where you could take out a family in a caravan...
As a matter of factor I rarely speed, and if I do it might be like 5 over on the interstate, and thats only because I dont really notice it.
I 100% agree with you, even though it wasn't long ago (2 yrs ago I think can't remember) I have completely changed my point of view of how a person should drive on public roads. Don't condone the bumping of the tire but yea I got smacked around a decent amount for being an idiot and I well deserved it.

even though i think i'm about your son's age, i agree with you 100%. ik do at most 6mph over.. cops in my town itch to pull you over.. but even if they were slack, i still wouldn't go over 10mph over the limit.. now, my father would not do what you would if i got a ticket, even if i was doing 85 in a 45... why? whose goign to drive me to work 5 nights a week, and to school 5 days a week? yeah, point taken..

although, it would probably be very hard to get him to cosign on a loan for a newer car for me.... i always think that.. well i could speed, and potentially get there faster, but what happens if i get in a wreck? or get a ticket? my insurance will go up and i put my life and othe rpeople's life at risk, and that, is not worth it.

My first ticket was when I was 2 years ago when I was 23. It was for doing 72 in a 45. I was speeding but it was on a road that was a 55 mph road, the MPH signs said 55 but starting that day the road was turning to 45 MPH, so I got wrote up for doing the 72 in a 45. Now my vehicle is a 89 Power Ram 50 with a 4 banger, lowly geared for off road trans, and 4.22 geared front and rear diff. I had the AC on and have honestly never had the truck over 60.

I was really worried about being called into court, but they knew that the police officer was a young guy who liked to kind of fudge the records some, I know the chief of police he told me that, that cop no longer has a job in my town. I still had to pay a ticket for doing 72 in a 45 but no court date and it is not on my insurance.

I have put that incident behind me and now drive pretty slow. The other day my mom ended up behind me in town and out in the country, was heading to her house, and she told me I drove like a grandma. I did some personal research, timing myself at the speed limit and pretty much well above, and have found that there is no need to go over the speed limit. The only time it really helps is if you are driving fast enough to spend a night in jail.

My kick on this one is I use to drive very fast till the day it almost killed me.....128 miles an hour my dumass buddy thought it would be funny to yank the wheel a little...Well little did he know at that rate of speed it only takes very vert little to do so much....Well long story short spun out and ended up hanging off a cliff of a 100 and sum odd foot drop off....Exactly 0 feet from distruction....I could get out of my door and fall of the cliff....Whats stop us was my back axel dug into to California cub"3-5 inch curbcurb"...And stopped us....To the younger generation out there slow the hell down life is too damn short....

I got into an accident once for falling asleep at the wheel. That taught me to make sure I pay attention at the wheel.
Then, I got pulled me over for being out of inspection. The cop wasn't a very nice guy and ended up giving me like 5 tickets. The only one I should have gotten was the out of inspection. He gave me like no seatbelt because I had to take it off to get the stuff out of my glove compartment (I'm 5'5" and I was driving a '77 Blazer...)
I got a lawyer and they dropped all of it except the inspection. My lawyer also told me the guy would have given his mother a ticket, so he was a real jerk. I found out later that they terminated his contract :)
I guess what comes around goes around.
Anyway, I've learned my lesson. There are constantly accidents around this area, so hearing the weekly deaths from people getting in accidents made me pay attention a lot more and make sure I don't speed. The only time I speed is on Interstate 78 when it's bumper to bumper and everyone's doing 70, just to stay with the pack and not get myself killed.

well boys i got a speeding ticket for 76 in a 55 it was actually 50 but i was nice and courtious and when the cop got to the door and asked me if i knew y he pulled me over i said yea i was going way to fast. i was in the middle of no where but it doesnt matter i was still breaking the law and deserved the ticket. i dont speeed like that anymore. i still speed but not that fast. on the way home from mikes i had to do 80 on our turnpike because people were closing in on me and swerveing around the hole trip back! people are nuts. o and then some punk kid desides to pull in between me and the minivan in front of me which barely could fit a pinto. i had to slam on my breaks to avoid killing the dumb bastards. i passed on the right and drove past and they got right on my ass till i got off. u dont know how bad i wanted to drop the bb's from my hand. but the gf convinced me it wasnt worth it.
