First Alarm

Post by Minorthreat412 »

I've never really liked alarms, but since my car is getting a bit more expensive I've gotta put something on it. I want something simple and not very hard to install at all. I've got a tight budget also. Thanx everyone. I just want a cheap alarm. Does anyone have a good idea of what to get?

My sugestion to you is save up about 200 to 250 and have a profesional shop install it for you. I have a few reasons why I sugest this to everyone in your situation. The first is the install itself. I work on the wiring and computer systems in the F16, and I would rather work on it, than install an alarm. I am not saying they are impossiable to do, or really that hard. However there is alot to them, and if they are improperly installed they can cause quiet a few problems. My second reason falls right in line with the first. Most name brand car alarms come with a life time warranty (if installed by a professional). Most people will never have a problem if the alarm is installed corectly, but I would rather pay a little extra, and know if the brain goes out, remote gets wet, or the siren stops working, I can get it repaired for free. My last reason is the options you get with a higher end alarm. How many times has one of your neighbors alarms went off during a storm? If he had a clifford, he could sit in his living room chair, press a few buttons on the remote, and turn off or down the shock sensor. Thats just one of the many options you have with some of the nicer alarms. Clifford even has a program called the cliffnet wizard ($40 retail). If you have one of cliffords G4 or G5 alarms, you can load this program into your laptop and adjust basically anything on the alarm with a simple key stroke.

If that is out of your price range then that is fine, and I am sure someone in here will have another sugestion more suiting to your situation. I just wanted to give you a heads up on some of your other options. So you didn't spend money on something and regret it later.

have the alarm professionally installed, and stay with a reputable brand like DEI/Viper, Compustar, or even CrimeStopper. The better the alarm maker, the better the alarm will be at avoiding false triggers, and protecting your investments.

an alarm isn't something you should try to install yourself unless you're a trained professional.

Just know that if you do buy an alarm online somewhere..many places will not install it unless it is their own.

i would reccomend compustar. i have a remote start/alarm system so it was up around $700-800 but i believe the actual alarm minus the service was around $300 (w/o remote start). Anyways after seeing how they did I can honestly admit I would have been lost without many tutorials. I dont regret spending $800 on an alarm, although it wouldve been nice to be able to save $350-400 on the install.
