angry...

Post by two4fifteen »

so on my way to work this morning, my right components start to cut in and out. I go to myself "wtf?". keeps doing it so i think maybe the wire is coming loose from the terminal on the speaker? i pull over, inspect, and all wires are secure. i turn my car back on, and now it is completely cut out. no right channel. and on top of that, i think i'm getting an alt whine from it now. so i'm really pissed. and i'm on my way to work so i don't even have time to mess with it. the only thing i'm thinking now, is that maybe my right RCA came loose and fell off behing the HU and grounded out. which might cause the whine through the right speakers. i'll have to wait til lunch or so to take apart my dash and take my deck out and check.

any other ideas what it might be?

i just hope nothing harmed my driver.

Check your amps first to see if they're in protection or not turning on. Then check your RCAs/other signal cables and grounds. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know :) Hopefully it's something stupid and simple.

that sucks. if his amp was going into protection, asusming he's got one amp for both sides, wouldn't that cause the left side to cut out ? ;)

well, i took the headunit out, tightened all the rca's to make sure none were loose. then i put electrical tape around the connection. turned the key, and now it works. im not exactly sure what was wrong, but its fine again.

Swap the RCAs around and see if the problem follows that specific RCA.

this is a good reason to use an adapter harness, and solder your connections, then seal them with heat shrink tubing.
Doing so prevents these issues to a large extent.
