Hey guys twozero33five here how ya'll doing

i was looking at head units in repco today and im not quite sure what to do

at the moment ive got a crappy sony xplod head unit that plays mp3s

but an mp3 cd isnt big enough for my liking.. (i get bored VERY easy :) )

i was looking at maybe getting a dvd mp3 compatible head unit. im pretty sure they hold 3.5 gigs or something like that?

or would it be better to get a i pod and a pioneer head unit with the ipod connectivity? what brand has the best ipod connectivity?

also is there any loss of sound quality from using an ipod as opposed to a cd. (all my cds are ripped to my computer at 192kbps)

i just received a pioneer 880prs and the cd-IB100II ipod adapter (installing that today). if you want one with a harddrive, it'll cost ya several shiny pennies, even the dvd units. personally, if i want dvd, i'll do a carputer (fully customized) so i get exactly what i want (including gps)

I havn't noticed a differecne in quality from ipod to cd. i use a pioneer deck with the pioneer ipod dapaters, works pretty well.

btw, i wouldn't reccomend mentioning the ripping of any sort of popular shiney digital media 'round these parts :>

the Avic Zi has built in 30G harddrive and the only way i'd use those Ipod connects is with a double din unit cause they're quite hard to navigate on a single din. Only Alpine has a decent Ipod direct connect.

Although I do not agree with his enthusiasm on a single brand... Alpine does make a decent Ipod adapter, but then again so does Pioneer, JVC, Panasonic, and a few others.

actually i just installed my cd-IB100II ipod interface, and WOW. same quality as the cd's i ripped them from. the interface is close to ipod speed, but still a tad slow. if you scroll too fast you gotta wait 1-2 seconds. but it works flawlessly and clear sq as if you were playing a cd. my 880 is wonderful and paired with the ipod interface, is unbelievable.

so i have to disagree with you that "only alpine has a decent ipod adapter". pioneer upped their game and is worth it IMO.

yeah the pioneer is alright, i havn't found out how to fast foreward or rewind tracks yet though.

for me speed is not that big of a factor its more the searching interface which I find annoying with single din units unless you're using the Alpine 9857's that shows 3 lines at once and has a nicer searching program.

the 880 shows 3 lines at once. the menu is the same way as the ipod

artists>album>songs>play

that's as simple as it gets. you can even shuffle the songs on the headunit too.
