hey guys. im a n00b to car audio. i currently own a 1989 honda accord with a 2.0l twin carb sohc. my audio setup consists of a sony xplod cdx-f5500x head unit cd/mp3, sony 2 way fronts 10 inch and sony 3 way 16 inch rears all running off the head unit. I had some store ready subs 12" x 2 boxed running of an amp which was in the box too running at what i believe to be 400w max. I know it wasn't rms cus the bass it was producing was craptacular.

im still searching for a new car, and am looking to build up a decent audio system. I was thinking of going with soundsteam as i had a good play in their demo car and was very impressed.

Ive looked on a few websites and found that in the specs box it says max input and rated output.

example

120w max input
30 w rated output

can someone please explain to me what this means? Because i was going to put an amp on my current sony rear speakers but im not sure if im able to put 130w in or just 30 as thats the rated output.

i feel i should answer this only because this is the most similar name to mine on the whole board.

first, are you sure you have 10" from speakers and 16" rears? i can maybe see 4"x10" in the dash, but do you mean 6"x9" or 6.5" in the rear?

second, i have no clue what you're trying to say with "120w max input, 30w rated output". maybe include a link to what you are refering to.

third, can we get some model numbers on your current equipment so we know what specs we are trying to match up.

finally, start searching through the FAQ area of the forums here. there's over two pages of general and specific information that is worth a good length of time to read it all.

sorry what i ment was the front speakers are 10cms 2 ways xs-gf1022x sony xplods

the rears are 16cm. They are last years so i cant find them on the sony website but they are the same as XSGF1632X pretty much (they are the 2006 version)

im not sure how to make click links but here is an example of what i mean.

under the heading product specification it says

Maximum input power 200W
Rated output power 40W
Frequency response 35Hz - 25kHz
Sensitivity 92dB

Maximum output is watts max (always ignore these max figures)
Rated output is watts rms (these are the numbers you want to pay close attention too)
Along with the rms you'll need to know the impedence configuration,
should say something ohm or symbol on the back of the speaker. You'll need to know this for amping.
Note: 2 quick tips
1 most of us are U.S. based so make sure and warn us when you're talking metric

2 I'm not trying to put down your system, but you say you want it to sound better... step away from sony.

yeah this was my first ever sound system so i choose sony beacuse it was a brand name i was most familiar with. im going to stick with it until i get a new car and then start from scratch.

It doesnt tell me the impendence rating on the box so it looks like im gonna have to jump back into the boot.

am i right in thinking that since it has a rated output of 40w then i dont want to hook it up to an amp pumping out more than 40w per channel rms?

how does fusion compare to other brands?

is it a new zealand based brand?

im from the U.K and we migrated here not too long ago so
im not up to speed with that kinda thing yet lol.

By the way, your speakers are all 4ohm
