Wow, its been a while since I saw that install. They should have shown the sub thru the plexi window under the hood.

That's definitely an example of a great quality coax that has a true crossover (although he's probably running them biamped) - more like a real component set that happens to provide a coaxial mount for the tweeter.

I wonder what that old gen GTi set sounded like. The current DDD version of the GTi's are one of my favorite sets.

I can tell you honestly Chris that the old system in Gary's car sounded as good if in some aspects better than what his current system sounds like. His regal when he ran the xs100's was what really made me want to run SQ totally, cause let me tell you, for overall punch that 12 was amazing, and for soundstage and imaging, those coax's were perfect. He went on to win the IASCA World finals with that set up, wait...he might have been runner up. I can't remember now. But with only 3 speakers, or 5 if you include the tweeters. Awesome!

PM me if you can, I need to talk shop with you for a moment or two. Thanks man.

One important thing to note is the "braxial". They have the same characteristics of a coaxial, but generally with a quality crossover equivalent to what you'd get from a component set. Often they have an optimized tweeter axis, and a design that minimizes reflection from the midrange.

That GTI set would be marketed as a "braxial" today, mainly because of it's crossover, biamping capabilities, as well as the fact that the tweeter doesn't sit on a center polepiece. Other examples would be those from CDT, the older Aurasound Mobile Reference sets, the Boston Acoustics Z series (<perhaps the most notable). I definately agree with this section of the market because most people just don't have the skill or the desire to install a component system correctly. These above examples, though, are pretty easy to set up and get sounding great even from your typical door location. Which means many, many more happy customers
