4 CVR 12" or 2 Ti 12"?
I have a friend who has a 200 mitsu Eclipse hatchback, and he wants me to put a system in it. I have the skills required to put it in, just like I put in my own, but I lack the technological know-how. Should my friend go with 4 12" kicker compvr subs powered by 2 amps, or should he go the other route that I have brought before him, and get something along the lines of 2 12" eclipse Ti subs, or 2 12" RE XXX subs? I know that the 4 cvr's will have more surface area, but will the greater xmax on the Ti's be enough to boost the total displacement of air to more than the 4 cvr's?? I also have some questions on wiring.. I have not yet researched the specs for the cvr subs, but I will shortly. Would it be better for my friend to go with two 2-channel amps, each one powering two of the cvr's (if he goes that route) or go with one very large 4-channel amp, or run it mono bridged to a 2-channel amp? I don't know all about ohms and stuff, so I dont know what to tell him about wiring the voice coils and stuff. If I am not mistaken, you can get teh 12" cvr's in both 2- & 4-ohm dvc configurations, but I cant rememer off of the top of my head...anyways, thanks for the help guys!

The CVR's would more than likely get louder, however I highly doubt there is enough space in his hatchback to fit 4 of em. Also what is he looking for out of the system? The TI's can get loud, and so can the CVR's. The TI's would destroy the CVR's in SQ however. If i were running 4 CVR's id use a large Mono block amp to power all of the subs assuming he has the proper electrical system to do so. It seems you still have some learning to do about ohms and what not. Read up at http://www.bcae1.com as much as possible until you fully understand. It's not difficut at all. And yes, the CVR's are available in both 2 and 4 ohm DVC configurations.
he could fit four of them in the hatchback.. the subs would have to face up and there wouldnt be much room for porting... and the box wouldnt really have enough room to be braced... if your friend has the money, tell him to go with a single 15" Resonant Engineering MT.. strap a couple amps to it and call it a day... if all he wants is SPL... then a single 15" MT will do this, since it is an SPL sub.... or a Stroker.... infact look at that topic we discussed... the "super sub" one.. but uh yeah i know all about the hatchback area.. Tempest in a 4^3cf box tuned to 28hz in a 94 Celica hatchback. plus i got a few friends with a couple and/or one 12"s in a Eclipse..(not sure on there year of them, but the hatch area is pretty much the same still.)

It all depends on what kind of stereo he is looking for. With any of the aforementioned stereos he WILL need to upgrade his electrical system. The kickers will get loud, and im sure the 2 12" XXX's will be just as loud and probably sound better.
If you want to find out what set up has more "potential", Ryan from Ohio made a thread about this a week or 2 ago in the FAQ section. Keep in mind this is only a baseline measurement. It all depends on box type and specs.

I'm not sure the XXX's would be as loud..You've got double the cone area with the cvr's and i'm not sure the xmax of the xxx's is enough to make up for double the cone area. However, the xxx's would sound damn good. Expensive too though.ridr4lif wrote:It all depends on what kind of stereo he is looking for. my friend has quite a bit of money to spend...he is the manager where I work at, so he aint short of cash, except for the fact that he has to pay off his street reacing tickets and pay court fines for that...but he makes good money, and wants a real kick-butt system...
he is going for high SPL, but I think that he would be happier with something like some XXX's of Ti's...since they will still get loud, and yet have great SQ as well..
let me put it this way...for $1500 to start off with, what system would you buy, shooting for a high SPL/SQ setup??
he needs a head unit and some subs and amp(s) to power them...I believe that he also needs some component speakers, and I pointed him towards the $150 on sale not too long ago CDT 6.5's. He told me that budget just as a starting point, mainly because he wanted to spend some money on LCD screens as well, but I think that that idea phased out rather quickly...

i think those 2 12 xxx's COULD get as loud as the 4 kickers, xxx have huge spl capabilites and the cvrs just have moderate spl capabilities, i would do the 2 xxx give them around a 1000 rms each give or take(i got 800 on my 12 and damn that thing gets loud) and since youre going for loud definently to ported, 2.5 each 5.0 total tunned to 30 hz and i guareentee you that that guy WILL NOT be able to stand it(image if you threw 1600 to each
) i rather do 2 top of the line subs than 4 mid line subs.
