One of my buddies loaned me his Fluke Meter a few weeks ago, and I am really starting to like it. So I am trying to figure out how much to offer him.

He got it about a year and a half ago, and only used it once. So I know he would sell it, but I am not sure how much to offer.
FYI, he didn't pay anything for it, but he does know what its worth.

IMHO people are just Fing nuts to pay anything near that much for a meter.
I guess if you have the actual need for it, then cool. But for car audio, there just isnt.
Ive been perfectly content with my $5 DMM. Hell if I blow it, $5 and get another.
I cant see offering more than $200 even if its worth about $1200... Given its limited use for what we do...

That was my feeling at first, but I need something more accurate for setting up my external sound card / mic preamp for my RTA, and the oscilloscope sure comes in handy for setting gains.
Your not to far off of what I was thinking anyways. I was planing on offering him 3 and my el cheapo dmm I have now.

For a professional, your tools are your livelihood. Buy tools that will last and do what you need them to.
Fluke is second to none and represents an industry standard.
If you have a need for that meter, offer him half of the best price you can find on one, or see what they go for used on eBay and offer that as a price.

Ryan's right in that there's no point in blowing $1500 on a meter if all you do is an occasional install or project at home in the garage. If you're a professional in an lectronics field though, and have a regular need for a DMM, and an on demand scope in a small package, that's a fantastic tool to have handy, and spending two grand on it is understandable with the case, leads, second battery etc.. when it also becomes a tax writeoff as a business expense.
All you'd need with that really is a clamp meter for high current lines, and you'd be set.
Hell, I'd offer the guy $350 for that thing if he'd sell it.. haha
how did he manage to swing it for free?

Sorry glass but that info is classified.
He was in the right place at the right time. Heck I found a fluke 77 in the trash at my work the other day, but the AC side doesn't work right.
That being said. I would never pay full price for it, and I use a DMM almost every day. But hay, if the price is right why not.
