umm, not Bush. Oil companies. They're showing record profits, and using the war as an excuse to mask their blind greed.
Blame the people who're truly responsible.

Guess I picked a good time to buy a honda..
pressure washer that is. gas powered honda motor, 3000psi
should do nicely for cleaning my engine block and garage floor.

The oil companies technically are not at fault. I am not trying to open a can of worms, nor do I work for an oil company. At current price and consumption, we have an estimated 25-42 years of oil supply remaining(its true, look it up), after that, thats it, no more oil at all. If we left the price of oil at 1.00 per gallon, the estimated 25-42 years would drop significantly to maybe 10-15 years of oil if not less. While I do not condone price levels, I understand them. What other options do they have, we are a "now" nation, there is no way possible that driving can become limited, people will not listen. Seriously, what other possibilities are there to limit oil consumption. If you want to blame someone, blame the Kennedy administration. That is the administration that made deals with auto manufacturers. Consider this, how long have 20+mpg cars been around? Longer than 20 years. You really think with our technology that by now we still cannot produce anything that exceeds 35 mpg's without it be a tiny two seater. Another thing to consider, electric cars. How long have we had that technology? Why are they not more prominent on todays roads? Technology has been there. Even antother thing to consider, alternative fuels. E85 has been around since the late 60's. Hell they even had what is known as Gasahol. That was a alcohol/oil mixture that was shut down. Why hasn't it had the funding it needed to become a prominent fuel by now.
People can get as mad as they want at the oil companies, but when it boils down to it, it is the government, and no it is not the Bush administrations fault. This is something that has been happening for quite sometime now.
There is a man who lives in southeastern Oklahoma who developed a fuel injection system that increased his gas mileage on a chevy truck from less than 20 mpgs to well over 70 mpg's. He patented the system, and sold it to GM for a cool 3.7 million. GM shelved the system, and never produced it. The pnly publicity it got was in the McCurtain Gazzette. There's something to think about.

actually that's incorrect. We have more oil in the earth right now than the accumulated amount that's been used to date. The major issue is being able to get to it.

It's not a matter of how old our nation is, or how well people listen, or how much they care about the environment etc.. It's about need.
This country is bigger than all of Europe, with half the population density. We are too spread out to rely on public transit systems the way a large portion of the EU does. It's apples and oranges when you consider the two. Then also consider that it's not just vehicles that use oil, but plastics production, heating, power generation, small engines for things like mowers and tools, and so forth.

I won't even get into the whole deal with gas companies and car manufacturers being in bed together to limit fuel economy and build cars with built in obsolesence. As for alternative fuel sources, the best option right now is LP, but it's not widely available in the US at stations.
Hydrogen is vastly inefficient, Ethanol produces more toxins to produce than gasoline produces when burned and refined. Pretty uch every option for alternatives have severely limiting factors, or is just impractical thus far.

PS; not all cars can run flex fuel, too. Ethanol really messes up the floats in carburetors, so you need a car with EFI designed to run flex fuel.. in other words, it's not backward compatible.

I think he's just talking about our economy in general. The reserves from how i'm reading it. Of course there is plenty of oil in the earth but if you manufacture to much the value is gone. God forbid us paying 25 cents a gallon. It's like gold... A mine is only allowed to process a certain amount a day. Anyway, if our political system remains as bad as it has since Reagan, then our oil reserves will be gone in 30 years. Just my two cents....

for the record it's not actually the mining that limits production, it's the refining.
We have too few refineries, and too much opposition to opening any new ones.
