So something weird happened today
So something weird happened today
I currently have an Eclipse EA3422 amp running 1 JL Audio 10w6. Been using this amp and sub combo for about 3 years now with nary a problem. This is in conjuction with the stock Bose speaker system in my 95 300ZX and I WAS using an Eclipse 5442 headunit until about 3 weeks ago when I switched to the 8445. Today I go to listen to some music as always and notice that there is hardly any bass. So I start messing around with the control on the deck and see that everything is hunky dory. I lift up the passenger seat to see if the amp is on, and it is off. Im like "wtf mate?"
I get to work, check the fuses on the amp - they are fine.
Check the fuse under the hood - it is fine.
Check the connections by the battery - they are fine.
So I take out the fuses and reinsert all of them. They are clean and corrosion free. I get back in the car, turn it on and look at the amp again. It's on. I turn up the volume and it automatically turns off.
Any thoughts? :help:

Just because the fuses look good to the naked eye doesn't mean they don't have a break in them somewhere. It's only half the time when they actually "pop" that you see the problem. I'd throw some new fuses in first and see if it doesn't fix the problem.

I know, but if one of the fuses is broke on the end it can easily get jostled back into place until it get's a little power.Bwcad1 wrote:he said it turned back on but then when he turned it up the amp shut off.
My old Civic had this problem and it took me forever to track down and fuses are cheap and never hurts to have a couple extra layin around just in case.

It was 5v before and now it is 8v. Here's another thing I didnt mention. About a week ago, I took the Z out for a good couple hour cruise with music blasting pretty much the whole time. Now keep in mind I have the amp mounted underneath the passenger seat (this is a 2 seater car.)
While cruising, all of a sudden I hear the bass turn off and I think to myself, thats weird. Then a big puff of white smoke comes up from under the left side of the passenger seat. I pull over and turn everything off. My buddy and I look all around the amp to see what started smoking and we couldnt find anything. Check the amp and cd player and everything seemed to be working fine. So we just chalked it up as being a "thats weird" type of moment and continued on our way. Think this might have something to do with my amp shutting off now? I used it for over a week at full volume with no problems after the little smoke incident though.
