good question that i may not have answered clearly yet. the sub presents the load. this means that the amp doesn't decide or choose what ohm it wants to be set at. the sub or speaker presents this ohm rating (load) on the amp. so if you have a SINGLE 4 ohm voice coil sub and an amp rated at 500w rms at 4 ohm or 1000w rms at 2 ohm, that amp will put out 500w rms when connected to that sub, because it presents it with a 4 ohm load.

now, if the sub was a DUAL 4 ohm voice coil sub (it has two sets of terminals) you would then either wire those two voice coils in parallel for a single 2 ohm load, or you could wire them in series for a single 8 ohm load. if we go back to that theoretical amp i was talking about, you would want to wire this sub in parallel for a single 2 ohm load, which you would then connect to the amp and it would put out 1000w rms since a 2 ohm load was connected.

jl has a great tutorial section on how to wire speakers in series or parallel. here's a link. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=145

so if i was to connect the cvr 15'' 2 ohm and the eclipse xa1000 would the sub automaticly use the amp in 2 ohm resistance or would i have to wire the eclipse in parallel?

the cvr is a dual voice coil sub, so there are two 2 ohm voice coils, and a set of terminals for each. so that sub can be wired up for a single 1 ohm load, or a single 4 ohm load. that sub cannot be set up for a single 2 ohm load for that amp. for the umpteenth time, you would want the dual 4 ohm cvr 15". you could wire it in paralle for a single 2 ohm load for that amp, and the amp would put out 480w rms.

i havent been able to find a good 15'' enlosure box and at this point i dont want to spend more money for a bigger sized box when i could get a 12'' one for cheaper. ive been thinkin about switchin to a 12'' Diamond CM312D4. is this of similar value to the CVR 15''?

one more big piece of advice for you. the enclosure will make or break a sub. please, if you want the most out of your sub, have a custom box made for it. if you cant make one yourself or if you dont have a local shop who can do it for a fair price, check out ryan's thread. http://www.caraudiocentral.net/forums/s ... php?t=5257 he can definitely make you a good box. for subwoofers, one size doesnt fit all.

and your gunna lose roughly 3db going from a 15 to a 12. in other words, the 12 wont be as loud as the 15.

what is a good mono amp that puts out about 500 rms at 2 and is around but not over $200? the eclipse is a perfect fit right now, but if i get low on money i may want to change my mind.
