narrowed down choices

ive originally planned on buying a 15'' kicker compvr. i recently found a 12'' cerwin vega vmax 12.4 which seems to put out just as much. to go along with the sub, ive been lookin at a hifonics bxi606 or a 1206. im looking for a lot of thump for rap while having a nice smooth sound for metal. which amp would go best given the kicker or the cerwin were chosen?

box has just as much to do with the sound as the speaker does. the kicker is pretty decent even though i dont like kicker.

From experince I would pick up the Kicker compVR, great bang for the buck sub. Better you pick out an amp make sure you can get the RMS of the sub at an ohm load the amp can handle. Ether one of those amps should work, I dunno the specs on it but if they both do 500 RMS you'll be fine.

the hifonics bxi 606 seems to not have as many watts as i want and the 1206is a little out of range moneywise. i was wondering if a phoenix gold r8.0:1 would be fine. RMS 400 w @ 4 ohms, RMS 600 w @ 2 ohms. the kicker compvr 15'' 2 ohm is RMS 500, Peak 1000.

Well, the dual 2 ohm will give you a load of 1 or 4 ohms. The CVR is 500rms, should be fine, the sub will be underpowered. It depends on how much power you will want to give the sub. Have you looked into directed audio amps. They are reasonably priced, and from what I have heard they do their rms ratings.

i think i would also choose the kicker.

as said above the box IMO is almost more important then the sub itself. i dont care how good your sub is if you put it into a crapy box it will sound like a crapy sub. i would make sure you give the kicker its full RMS.

^ x2. that sub in a proper enclosure built for it with a clean 500w rms should make you happy. as far as enclosure design, i think high society ran a 15cvr for alittle bit and may be able to give you an idea of what box would be ideal.

so do you think the phoniex gold r8 amp would be suitting? the rms is 600 on 2 ohm and on 4 ohm its at rms 800. its the closest i can get to almost gettin to the CVR 15''s peak power handling

You're not looking to fulfill a "peak" power requirement, you're looking to fill the RMS or continuous power requirement.
