the kicker zx amp do NOT have built in fans, but im more than okay with that because they were too loud on my old kx amps anyway.

Some amps do get really hot and I've had alot of people ask about why their large kicker amps get so hot, even with upgraded wiring, bat, and alt.
Simple solution really put the amp up on some small blocks so air gets under it, then rather than paying the money for an amp fan, go to your local computer shop and pick up a computer fan (they're the same thing) and you'll only pay a couple bucks for it. Mount it under the amp and presto cooler amp and guess what else.... less draw (not much, but every lil bit helps). :thumbsup

As long as the amp isn't going into protetion, then there is no problem. Amplifiers can get extremely hot. I had an ARC Audio XXK1500 a few years back that I had playing for about an hour, and I accidently touched it. Needless to say, I had a burn mark on my hand for the next few days.

youngin?? lol you could be my son.

back on topic as said before these things do seem to be VERy power hungry. i run a 200 amp alt and a 200 amp fuse on my system and the voltage still drops from 14.8 into the low 12's during really heavy bass sessions

No, the amp has never shut off in self protection mode yet, I guess I'm just a bit paranoid right now, I spend some pretty good money on all of this, and I really don't wanna break anything. I still need to upgrade the electrical system, will most likely be doing that tomorrow, as for the ventilation, the amp has the 4" of clearance overtop of it that it needs, its more along 10" or so.

hmm didn't know that, I just assumed they did since my KX did, so it seems that you're okay with the amp getting hot. Every amp does it, just don't touch it next time, cuz you might wish you hadn't.
