[quote="geolemon"]Funny you mention that...
I very well may have some subs that represent an 'early release' - that we may wish to distribute to real enthusiasts that we know, perhaps people to represent us- we might distribute these at a discount.
The Response sub, there's a magnet sticker that has some info on the sub, it looks pretty nifty - but it may be delayed, meaning that I'll have subs on hand that I can't really sell... not that it impacts performance at all, but I could offer a "naked" Response sub maybe for a bit of a discount - we'll see what the final arrivals time out like.
Also, the Statement sub may initially be released with a different motor plating than we had desired - again, just a cosmetic thing, the sub is technically otherwise exactly the same. But I'm picky - with the copper coils, copper shorting ring, and my wish to have this sub look at least a touch more upscale without crossing the "bling bling" line (sorry, homeboys :D ), we really wanted the entire motor to have a copper plating. That might not happen for the first small release of subs - maybe 20 or 25 12" subs. We'll see. ]

Originally, the big Statement we tweaked to model very closely to the W7, in similar enclosures. Since we took the motor up about 50% in strength (and about 20% in weight :p ) from that point, they need even smaller enclosures.

The Response series was one motivator - we hit on an alignment that really uses ridiculously small enclosures. The 10" sub isn't even compromised in a 1/2 cu.ft. enclosure - Qtc is only about 0.78 IIRC in a box that small (an "ideal" Qtc is 0.72, and considered acceptible as you shrink your enclosure down until it reaches about 0.9 - or some say even higher).

So - "small". :D

Thermal powerhandling? Or mechanical powerhandling? ]believe [/I]those will prove to be conservative numbers.

Exactly how does a 1/2 cubic box look like for a 12" sub?

Cant be very deep...

Thank you, I was just wondering *ABOUT* how much power they would need... 750 Rms is pretty good, about what I was hoping for... I dont want subs that need 2,000 wrms each...

im getting pretty interested in these subs. itll be good to cause im closing down and losing all of my suppliers so i need to find new places to get my toys. it sounds like the statement sub will also do well as a home audio sub and it will be nice not having to come up with 2000 watts to get it moving. 500 watts with a ported box will probaly get it to sound really good and get loud at the same time. also what are the VC configs?

I know you were talking about the huge delays that you've already encountered, but do you have any general timeframe for the 12" Statements to be out?

you take the displacement of the sub, add half a cubic foot, and build a box with that gross volume.
it'd be small. ideal for fiberglassed boxes that fit in trunks behind the rear wheel well, etc.. "stealth boxes"

mmmm a copper statement 15" sounds quite sexy, and ieal for my sealed location of the spare tire section of my trunk.
I could even stuff the sub into one side section of the trunk if I cut out the trunk for a fuel cell.

Thats going to be one hella small box...

The MS-100 CDT subs I had (10") were sugguested to go in a .45 cube sealed. Basicly the size of the box they came in...

Just remember that "handle" and "need" are two completely different birds...

Thermal powerhandling is simply a rating - a maximum limit. It tells simply how many watts you can put through a voice coil until it reaches it's thermal limit and something breaks down (usually the glue used to bind it). How much power you need has to do nearly exclusively with your enclosure design - you control how much power you "need". ;)

And, it also closely ties to 'mechanical powerhandling' - since you can design your enclosure to be SO efficient, that the sub can reach mechanical limits before the thermal rating is reached.

Also, bear in mind that this coil is not at all dissimilar to the one used in our older prototype subs, and the ones used in Adire's Brahma, and RE's original XXX series subwoofer (in fact, we've got better cooling, given our basket), and those subs were rated at 1600w RMS and beyond - that rating conforming to a long established CEA standard for thermal powerhandling.

Our rating is intentionally conservative - just as JL has always been, and as you now see Adire doing.
It's possible to send it more - in hands that have experience and know-how.
But I'm not going to want to be honoring warranty returns from some 17 year old kid who knocked a box together out of an old door and cut a hole and declared it "a port" - and then wires it up to his 1600w amp. :attitude

:p
