JASON96R wrote:I am kind of happy the minimum wage wasn't increased. When minimum wage goes up the price of everything else goes up, I make $5.25 an hour so I would supposedly be positively effected. For instance if McDonalds has to pay all their employees atleast $2.00 more an hour it would be very unlikely for them to still have a dollar menu. Also, understand alot of Unions of contracts that require they make a certain amount of money over minimum wage.

Basically, unless a company raises the pay of someone who gets paid for example $10.00 an hour, that persons purchasing power goes way down. Meaning they will have a much harder time getting by than they had before, unless that place raises their prices if they happen to sell some kind of service.

Whenever the minimum wage is raised the price on everything else will raise to accomodate for the increase in wages paid out.
while that may be true, things like rent aren't going to go up as much... water, lights, cable, etc won't bea ffeted. sure, you may have to pay a little more for a cheeseburger, but what the people out there with young children struggling to get by who have to go for weeks without water or lights because they don't make enough money to stay up on their bills? surely its not a huge deal to pay another few cents on a cheeseburger so that those that arent making much money can feed their kids while having lights and water at the same time :)

you don't want min. wage raised.
all it'll do is:
raise cost of living by charging more for products to be produced so companies can meet the rise in cost of production.
cut hours to meet bugetary restraints of company management
make products cost more, actually reducing quality of living for those making min. wage

minimum wage does nothing for people but hurt those at or below the poverty level who do work for a living because any increase in cost of doing business for a company trickles down to an increase in the cost of living for everyone.

Yeah I was working at Taco Bell when they raise it to 5.25. It pissed me off, cause I had worked to get to that point, and all the new people got the same.

I think it was about 48 hours before we had to pull the signs and raise the price on everything. So its a two way street. Yes you make a little more, but everything cost more, so it can go negative pretty quick.

I was just going to say all of this, but you beat me too it.
Minimum wage in the end does more harm them good for everyone. It's like a paycut for anyone who currently makes over min wage (especially those who are just over the min wage)

It also just ends up raises prices on everything, so even those who got the pay increase, just end up using the extra on the prices increases.

Plus, if you're a small business who say has 3 employees. Now he has to pay an extra $2 an hour per employee. He may have to now layoff an employee because he can't afford the extra expense.

not good.

I understand what your saying, but when you raise the min wage you are also raising the poverty line. They are connected to each other, and if one goes up so does the other.

I heard a guy on the radio today saying how he thinks the min wage should be 30k a year??? Oh ya, talk about a quick way for our economy to go down the toilet. Everyone who was making just a shade over 30k who might have been working at their job for a few years to get there, just got screwed!!!

They just got demoted in effect, because they were just bumped back down to the poverty level. Price of goods and services would go through the roof, and that 30k just became what the 15k/year was earlier. Only now there are more people at this level then before.

Who works for min. wage anyhow?

Generally jobs that pay min. wage are marketed towards young people, somebody in school looking for a little work history while making some cash while doing it.

If you're trying to raise a family on min. wage then chance are somewhere during the line YOU screwed up. MOST people who are in this situation have brought it on themselfs... Its not a difficult concept, dont have kids until you can financially surport them.

yes, but if you DO have kids before you can support them, theres nothing you can do about it. YOU CAN'T just say "too bad, should have made better decisions." while thats true, its too late to do anything about that. I agree with you, but again, if they're already there, we can't just say fuck em.

No, but that would be THEIR responsiblity to go to night college or do whatever it takes for them to surport THEIR family....

I dont care if they have to scub toilets, once the test comes back positive it's time to start acting like an adult and step up to the plate...

There's goverment programs that can help with schooling and child care, they should use those to help get back on their feet and to better their situation. I'm all for goverment assitance for those who truely need it!!!! :happy055:
