Well its confirmed, she DID have a storke...

Heres another fantasic story about the hospital....

A few weeks about my cousin and a few of his friends from work went down to the river. Well theres a big bluff down there, it has a few different stages you can jump off of. If you look at the diagram below you'll see what Im talking about...

Image

My cousin usually jumps off the 2nd stage because it over laps the 1st one so its relatively safe, but him and another kid climbed to the top one because the kid wanted to see what it was like from up there... Well, its a LOOONNNGG ways down and if you do decided to jump you have to get a run and jump hard otherwise you'll hit the stages below... Neither one of them wanted to take the huge risk so they started to turn around to leave when the kid lost his bounce and fell... If you look at the picture below you can see just how big of a fall it is....
Image

Obviously the kid was knocked out. My cousin made a very brave move and jumped down after him, luckly he was able to find him and pull him to the surface.... He said it was the worse thing he's even seen, blood was everywhere.. The nearest place to get him out of the water was about 100 yards away (because of the bluff).... Luckly one of them had brought along a little raft so they used that to get the kid to shore, half way there the kid came to but obviously couldnt swim...

Once at the shore they called an ambulance. My cousin said the kids head was spilt open and he started having still seizures...

The hospital stitched/stabled the kids head up and sent him home later that night... Well after being home for abut 30 mins he starting having seizures again and was rushed to the hospital (he lives in st.louis so he was taken to one of the hospitals up there).... This time he stayed in the hospital for about 4-5 days... The hospital up there said that our hospital should of never of released him, in fact they said he should of been air lifted up there in the first place.... They are indeed sueing the hospital and will more than likely get a very nice settlement...

On a side note: The kid and his parents sent my cousin a very nice thank you card, they said they couldnt believe my cousin did what he did for somebody he just meet... It might not seem like that big of a deal, but its not until you're standing on the top of that bluff until you realize just how scary it is (especially when you see how far you have to jump to clear the *stages* below.).... I'm pretty proud of him for that... :)

I should note thats there are trails going to each bluff....

Turns out that the stroke did ALOT of damage.... She'll have to go directly into a nursing home where she'll have to spend the rest of her life...

Thank you hospital.... :sad017:

not to sound like an ass, but be aware that if the hospital had known what they were doing, they should have administered medications first thing that would have stopped the symptoms of the stroke, and prevented that amount of damage.
The waiting and lack of treatment is what caused the damage.

Consider seeking legal advice.

I dont think you sound like an ass at all kiki, I appreciate the advice.

Shes isnt under my care though so I cant really do anything about it, I guess that would be up to my aunt/cousin... Though I'm sure they'll go through with any legal action they can....

What a terrible situation, someones neglect causing your aunt(?) to have to stay in a nursing home. I tell ya' what, none of you guys will be paying for the care after you do take legal action, IMO. But I guess that doesn't make up for the damage done really..... I feel for ya'. Look on the brightside, it is possible that her condition could improve eventually, it has happened!! :D

well, I really meant to say you should suggest they follow up legally, if for nothing but to make the doctor/hospital cover the future costs of care for her.
Do you have any idea what a nursing home costs per month?
I assure you, it's more than probably any of us makes.

^^ Very true. Nursing Homes are outragously expensive, and the care there gets even worse than the hospital. Not trying to be the bearer of bad news, but a good nursing home is few and far between. Not saying they are not out there, because they are, but there are few of them.

I have to contest this last post^^ Maybe where you are located Nursing homes suck, but a good deal of them in CT are amazing and both my Grandfather and my Great-Grandmother were in the very capable hands of nurseing professions. Also our Hospice up here is awesome as well!

My aunts daughter works in a nursing home and I believe they charge something around 2,500-3,000 a month... It's a really, really, really nice one though, I think they are going to TRY to place her there... If not theres another one here in town thats pretty nice and has a pretty good staff, thats probably where she'll end up (ALOT cheaper)...
