LOL i read on the kicker cvr manual that one way to test if a box is properly sealed is to push the sub ALL the way in and let it go, it should take like 5 seconds to come back out, so my and my friend go to best buy and whe try it out, so whe go to the cheap plastic fosgate stage 1 subs and i push it in, sure enough it slowly floats back to its resting point, my friends tries it and the plastic cone breaks right in the middle LOL, cant believe kicker recommended this.
well it is a way to find out if its sealed, but you should do it evenly... so one side doesnt get pushed in... i usually place one thumb on each side and push slowly down a little. another thing i have tried is taking an air hose and going around the box.. or you could use a blow dryer i guess.
I've never actually heard this suggestion. It doesnt seem like a good idea at all. However, for your friend to actualy break the cone on the Rockford sub..id imagine some severe pushing was going on..not just a slight push on the cone. Every time i go into BB i see all of the cones on the Rockford P1's and P2's broken..now i see how. I honestly would never test this on equipment that did not belong to me..or even my equipment for that matter. Just an over all dumb idea. There is NO need to push down on the cone in order to see if your box is properly sealed. Personally, i use enough liquid nails to ensure the box is properly sealed. When i'm done..its VERY obvious that there are no leaks in the box. I've actually heard of submerging the box in water to test for leaks..not sure if its a great idea either..but i've heard of it being done.
I've had some scrap mdf sit out in the rain for a couple hours, all it did was swell up a lil, and get all mushy on me. But i would never summerge my box in water to see if there were air leaks, jesus thats retarded.
