Subwoofer Installation???

I have seen people mount their subs onto an enclosure a couple of different ways. Does it make a difference??? What does mounting the subs on to an enclosure where the magnet is facing outwards do?

Nothing really. As long as the mounting is air tight and secure to the baffle, you're good.

It is mainly just for show and you get a little more air volume in the box. The sub wont sound any different or wont get any louder, unless the sub is being deprived in a small box and the little addition of air helps it. When you invert a sub(mounting it backwards) you have to switch the posotive and negative on the sub because it is mounted backwards.

I'm gonna disagree. With less cone area I don't believe it will get as loud as being normal.

"Inverting a speaker is the term used when a subwoofer is mounted "backwards" so the magnet structure is exposed outside of the enclosure to show off the size of the magnet, or the chromed basket and so forth.
Mounting a speaker this way has absolutely NO effect on the output of the system. Doing this does not make the sub any louder or quieter. Inverting a sub does however change the volume of the box, sine you're moving the mass of the driver's motor structure outside of the enclosure, effectively increasing the net air space inside the enclosure.
This can alter the response of the box, or change the tuned frequency of any ports.

So, to answer this commonly asked question, no inverting a speaker doesn't effect the output in any significant way. It's mainly done for looks and bling factor."
