with a proper install, components will sound way better than coaxials. They do require an amp, but IMO are well worth the extra $$ invested.

Look at the FAQ section for the speaker replacment guide. It will help you figure out the diffrence in all the speaker types.

$200-250...

If thats your price range only your best off switching out the front speakers and calling it a day. Maybe go ahead and add an all in one bass tube type deal.

Once you step outside that bounds you can still use the stock Head Unit and use an LOC and risk it, or buy another head unit. When you go with buying another head unit to do the amps etc you will far exceed your $200-250...

You very BEST bet is to stroll into Best Buy/ Circuit city, tell them that $250 is your MAXIMUM budget and tell them you want front speakers, a sub and install in that price.

Stick to your guns as they will try to up you on everything...

They can probably work something out for you, granted you will probably walk out with all "bolt" or "dual" but it will be in your price range.

Listen to the speakers/subs closely before buying ;)

Ampresearch wrote:if i researched this right the head unit and speakers are all made by pioneer for that car and for a stock system is not all that bad. if this is the case I would think there is a stock amp. this amp would be fine for the level of replacement speakers you are looking at
The problem witht that is the factory crossover points are really gay...

I hate factory premium systems like these... It makes everything much more complicated.

When it comes time to do my sisters system I'm going to pick up a decent deck, 4 decents speakers to run off it, 2 12" lower powered subs (i.e kicker comps) and a small mono block.. For her thats all she would ever need, no sense of spending the extra money for something better.

do components NEED to run through an amp? if they don't need one, how good are they without an amp

can anyone reccommend good component speakers at bestbuy or ciruit city or Tweeter for less then $200

by the way, does anyone use any type of ipod adapter(tape deck, FM transmitter) with their sound systems, other than an ipod ready headunit.

You can run components without an amp, but they will sound pretty poor. If you plan on amping them in a month or so, then go for it. If you don't plan on amping them, just go with the coaxials.

You really need to go listen, and let your ears pick. Other than that, check out the good / bad / ugly for a few brands to look out for.

since i don't want to spend a lot, it is better to buy a $200 amp with $100 component speakers or a cheaper $120 amp and $200 component speakers. im not talking about any speakers or amps in particular, but i want to save some money so is it better to get a good amp with okay component speakers, or the other way around.

im going towards a better amp, but i wanted to know what evryone else thought

For the most part, power is power. Don't take that as all amps are the same, but he difference between a $100 amp and a $200 amp will not be huge, where the difference between a $100 pair of components and $200 pair will be noticeable.

But with components, install is very important. If installed poorly, even the best components will sound terrible. Simple coaxial speakers work best for most people,to be honest. No need for 3-ways, just stick to 2-ways for coaxials.

Ay men... :bow

Now get yourself a pair of 12" kicker comps (they're cheap and easy to find) and a decent 300 watt amp...

If your trying to go cheap look into a 4 chanel amp, so you can run the components off the front two chanels and then bridge the rear chanels for a single sub.
