not loud enough :(

No, its not the subs! Where is eem to have a problem is in the components (elevation audio concert series 6.5"). they just don't seem loud enough for me. Being powered by a Alpine MRP-F240 briged @ 4 ohm, which puts out 100x2, which is what they're rated for. Now it could be that the amp puts out that power at 14.4 volt....another thing i'm thinking of is the amp.... the gain is basically all the way down because if i turn it up i get alt. whine and i can't even set the gain with a DMM because the output voltage it reads is lower than what i need to set it to... So i'm guessing its one of those, or its just the components arent very loud. Sometimes i find my self turning the low setting on the head unit down all the way so i can hear them.....

also i'vei noticed that my system in general is only really loud at high volumes now day., ie, 40-62 is the best volume to actually be able to hear stuff.. i don't think i'm going deaf just yet but in the past when i had my memphis coaxils and dayton tweeters, i never needed to turn t up past 40. and sometimes driving through my neighborhood i'd have to turn it down to under 15 and still be able to hear things just fine.. yeah.

any ideas? i'im thinking i'd like to start with the head unit?

hmmm. I would start with the amp and getting the gains properly set. if your getting whine there is a reason for it and should be hunted down. then you would be able to make proper adjustments and decide if you are still unhappy with them

well i can't properly set the gains... when i use the DMM the voltage i'm getting out is about 1/3 of the calculations i used. the whine only occurs when the gain is up. the ground is as short as can be, all signal cables are ran opposite of power cables (to the best that they can be.) only thing i can think of is that theres an issue with either the cd player (pioneer deh 560mp) or the amp (alpine mrp f240). and suckily, its impossible for ome to check if its either of those because i don't have any spares.

the whine is probably there just not as audible...fix your whine and then i think you will find the concert series sound fantastic.....

they do sound great, they're just not keeping up with the subs :P i'll cehck the ground with my dmm... other then that i'm out of options it seems.

but i'm sure they'll sound better if i could get the amp setup right. is it possible that a deck with higher output voltage would help with it some? if i had the higher voltage from the deck, i'd get higher a higher voltage reading on the speaker outputs right?

are you using the factory ground or did you run your own for the head unit?

you would get a higher voltage rating at a lower gain level with a higher pre-out voltage. I have read that higher voltages will make the signal clearer and stuff, so maybe it is a thought. Is your CD player older or kinda new??

also, how do i test the ground? i understand that i hold the connectors on my dmm (while set to read OHMs) to each end of my ground wire.... do i do it with the car&amps on or what?

welll... help me find somethign with a higher output voltage, non-pioneer, that won't add noise and that i could buy tommorow that won't cause me to be broke for a week (keep in mind that i work at mcdonalds :P)
