Car fix up

Post by Mithrandir »

Hey guys im planning on fixing up the paint job on my car. I want it to look nice (not perfect but better than it is) There are some rust spots and chips and a paint scrape. How do you guys recommend doing this. I want it too be cheap as possible cause I dont have much money. I was thinking of just sanding and priming and painting the messed up spots and then sanding the clear coat off and re clearing that parts of the car that needs it. I also want to remove my graphics and maybe paint a design on the hood so my car stands out. I was thinkin paint the hood then sand it down again, lay a stencil on it and spray it whatever color then clear the whole thing. Yes this is gonna be ghetto but it will look nicer than how it looks right now.

Also do i need to use bondo? Never did it before and i dont really know the purpose.

IMO I would forget about it.

If I remember right your car is some form of purple?

That means you either need to get matched paint or that paint at the parts store/walmart thats like $7 a can...

To do just a little or larger spot wont look good.

You will need to do the whole panel up to a seperation...

I just did the roof, trunk and hood on the Beretta with cheap $1 cans. Looks better than it was, but still not good... But the beretta is a black, not purple..

Thats what I was going to say... Even though maaco doesnt always do the best job its going to look better than spray paint... I think that they have that 200.00 dollar deal going on right now.

Get some of that smooth bedliner stuff and just paint the car with it. Lots of people do it with offroaders that are rusting up. It'll seal everything up and it's as low maintenance as it gets :D If I remember correctly it isnt like you're doing up a flashy car anyway.

I could use $1 can as my car is gloss black and thats an available color.

Im sure they dont make a matching paint for your car for $1...

Thats my point.

It will cost ya $6 a can...

On my old s10 some of the paint was flaking off. I went to walmart and got a can of that truck and van paint and touched her right up, shot some clear over it, gave her a quick wet sand and deemed it good enough... Made it look alot better, still not perfect though... God I miss that truck, it had a built 4.3 in it, it'd float it sideways when it shifted to 2nd (auto). :happy055:

ok, well im not too worried about that. Im not doing the whole car, im gonna do under the doors where its rusted, by the gas tank where the paint scrape is, the roof where the duct tape holding my plastic sunroof is (ghetto, can i get a witness) and ill probably use the touch up crap on the few spots of my hood where there are rock chips. Dunno about painting a graphic on the hood though

edit: nearest maaco is 80 miles away lol
