yeah i can see the street racing thing, but you guys have to agree that some speed limits are retarded. they should totally rethink the speed limits on some roads and highways. I mean if its very easy to go 80 on the highway with no trouble so why not make it 80? I mean anyone that is driving should be able to do that and if they cant let them go slower but dont basically punish the people who can do 80 safely with fines. Also on a personal note. People 70 and over should have to retest every 2 years or so cause I hate getting nearly hit into by old people who shouldnt be driving damn it.

Ditto on the old farts.

The only reason they have not raised many speed limits yet is due to the crash testing. Texas has recently raised their limits to 80 in rural areas though. They've been trying to raise the limit here from 70-75 recently.

hopefully they follow suite here, i got pulled over for doing 44 in a 25 lol, it should have been a 35 zone, but still the cop was nice and only cited me for not obeying the signs so it was just 106 bucks, and I learned my lesson. Dont speed to get back to leave work on time.

I just wanted to tease bill a little.. gota admit that was some awful spelling though! hehe I figured he was tired of drunk.. wasn't sure which :P

The speed limits aren't only a matter of the car's abilities, but also the road conditions. While the autobahn for example, has 26" thick asphault that is highly maintained and built from the start for high speeds, with long shallow sweeps, and no sharper bends at the high speed areas, US roads are 12" of asphault, and holes are randomly patched as people complain. Not highly maintained. Road condition has a lot to do with limiting vehicle speed, as does differential speed. Trucks going slower and being hit by fast moving smaller cars will cause a lot of damage, too. Speed doesn't kill as much as differential speed does.
This is one reason I've always opposed separate speed limits for trucks and passenger vehicles.

there is a road right next to me, 2 lanes in each way, fiar amount of trafic... long road. speed limit is only 35 for a while and then it goes up to 40. its hard to describe but that should definitely be raised. its mostly just truckign facilities and stuff. most people don't even follow the speed limit i see people doing an easy 10 over at all times.
