My cable company just upped my bandwidth in my area with no price change!

My connection just went from 5 megabit, to 9!!!

I ran this test:
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Got 9102 download and 1010 upload!

~1.1 MB/s down and ~126 KB/s up

you lucky man.... mine is.... 502kbps download and 293kbps upload. Yup... i have the lowest speed cable!!

3315 down 510 up, but I have 9mbps available here as well and upgraded to it a couple months ago. I didn't notice any speed change at all, called the cable company and they said "Oh, well that modem you have is not capable of any faster speeds" and they supplied it to me to begin with!!! Then they told me "you can purchase an upgrade modem from us for 75 bux" Golly they are robbing me! I said I would wait.... How much you pay a month for 9mbps, if you don't mind me asking. I think it was like 55 bux here.

I have no idea what i have...all i know is that its cable. Oh, and my results were:
4153kbps download
1757kbps upload

not too shabby i guess. While we're on this subject...how can you speed your computer up a bit? Mine has been running a little slowly lately. Any tips from all you computer peeps?

check for viruses, spyware, defrag the hard drive, check to see if there are files and programs that you don't need or use anymore cluttering up

at worst, format the hard drive and reinstall everything.

I have norton anti-virus installed which scans every now and then. Always comes back with nothin.
How do i defrag my hard drive or check for unused programs? Keep in mind...im not very computer literate. I will def not be reformatting.
