JVC-Wood cone Speakers

Post by solacedagony »

Since that JVC head unit thread was up, I decided to roam around the JVC website. Low and behold, what do I find? Apparently they made the world's first wood coned speakers.

interesting that they would say that its made of Birch wood... they say that fine instruments are made of this material like violins and Guitars but i have little faith in the way these sound... ill stick with the silk domes, and impp surrounds

Actually, there not. The Alpine F1 series components are wood fiber, and have been out for about 4 or so years.

I kind of doubted their claim. I was pretty sure someone had already thought to put wood in cones. They've tried every other material lol

they may be the first solid wood cones. wood fiber can be manipulated into a shape alot easier than a solid piece of wood

The Vifa XT drivers have been using wood fiber cones for quite some time. Those are what the Alpine Type X comps are based upon.

They aren't bad, but really wood cones have some undesirable characteristics in comparison to other rigid cones. Kevlar and metal cones tend to exhibit more desirable characteristics in regards to distortion and energy storage. In Vifa's case, the XG drivers perform better in midrange than the XT drivers do. They just lack the better motor design.
