heh... i had some fun with computers last week too!

I started the day by wiping windows and installing RedHat Fedora Core 5 (but i burned recovery discs first!). I couldn't find drivers for my laptop's hardware so i put windows XP pro on it. well, XP pro didn't come with drivers for my hardware either, and HPs driver download site was not working for me.. so i popped in the recovery discs and 3 hours later i find out that the recovery discs made a boo-boo, and i couldn't get into windows because the program that actually loads windows was missing (ntldr). So i wait a few horus and download Windows MCE, thinking it'd be fine. wrong. i install that and try to get drivers for it... blah! The next morning i did the recovery discs again and now everything is find.

so, the moral of this storey is: DON'T FCK WITH LAPTOPS! :P

should've asked me for help Chris :)

first:
slipstream SP2 onto the XP CD so SP2 is installed with XP.
Then go to:
http://www.autopatcher.com/
get autopatcher for XP
run it
THEN do live updates for the 3 or 4 you missed. Autopatcher is updated monthly.
Use Microsoft Updater and it'll handle the Office SP for you in the background.

OK, here is one I can't remember how to get rid of.

How do you remove Windows Messenger?
I had gotten rid of it before, but now I can't remember. I thought you had to go into the registry or something?

Yep it sucks. Windows in general is a mess of work. Linux is great, but Windows is convenient for a lot of things, especially games.

GlassWolf, do you have a website that describes the slipstreaming process so I can burn the Windows install onto a cd?

removing messenger:
for 4.7 autopatcher does it for you with a check box, or:
http://www.updatexp.com/disable-messenger-msn.html

slipstream Service packs into XP:
use:
http://www.nliteos.com/
or follow these instructions to do a straight slipstreaming:
