Noise coming from amp

Post by swimmerdude »

I dont know whats wrong with me but i am always having problems!! Well... i went out today to play with my new Phoenix Gold X600.1 amp. I put on a 50hz test tone and start to turn up the volume. Once the volume goes up to 18 on my Alpine, there is like this sound coming from the amp like a "zzzzz" kinda sound. First i thought i should put something between the box and amp so i found a piece of styrafoam and put it inbetween. Well, that didnt do anything... still makes the same sound at the same volume. So is there something messed up with the amp or am i experiencing my amp clipping or something??

I have a friend from work that used a test tone cd and it ruined his MTX mono amp. He gave it to me and i hooked it up , it worked but you could smell the voice coils burning from the subs.

I was thinking..... the amp has a fan on it and it is automatically controlled and has variable speeds and blah blah blah. Could the fan can be making the noise?? Either its just what it sounds like or its rubbing on something?? If someone thinks it could be a fan noise.... i might take the top off and watch it to see, but i dont know.

Turn it on and listen for noise and look and see if the fan is running or not when you have noise.

So i went out there again, played some regular music and went through some other tones and i THINK it is just rattling..... i hope. I wont play the subs that loud while im driving so hopefully i wont rattle the amp too much.

So that means that it just will make that noise or that the fan is already bad??
