Compustar installers?

Post by lotas »

Alright I'm pissed. Every couple weeks my remote start needs to be reprogrammed, or that's what they tell me. I ask why it keeps happening and the guys says "Because it's an H", now I have no idea what that means, but I'm hoping some of you do.

Basically I bring it to them, and I have to bring them my spare key or other key too for some reason, and they reprogram it and it works fine.

Do any of you installers know what they are doing? How to reprogram it? I'd love to just do it myself so I don't have to make an appointment, sit in the store for an hour, and do it all over again in a month.

Btw its a 99 Honda Accord, manual transmission. Its not a big deal to me that it stops working, I just hate to have to keep bringing it back. And its only the remote start, the alarm still works perfectly.

i dont know for sure what they mean about it being an "h" but my guess is that they are using a pos for an immobilizer...what happens is that the factory security system has what they call PATS programming...it is Passive Anti Theft System...this system uses a transponder in the head of your key to let a reciever in your steering column know thet a correct key is being used to try and start the car....this prevents any key that hasnt been programmed to your car from starting it....

now......there are different types of immobilizers used in remote starts that get around this...to sum it up, when you activate the remote start system there is a wire in your brain that throws a ground and that ground is used to activate the immobilizer which will either be a unit that is programmed to your car much in the way a key is but is also more prone to failure and is slightly less expensive....the other type actually places an extra key in a small box that is hidden within the vehicle and powers up with the ground that your brain throws to transmit that keys transponder frequency through an antenna that is mounted around your key cylinder....this method is much more reliable and even though it cost a little more, generally in the form of having to supply a new key, it is definitely worth it to use this model

if i have a customer who is uneasy haveing a spare key mounted anywhere in the car i will offer to cut the teeth off the key and return it to them and only use the head of the key because the only part that is required is the transponder.....

I think "because it's an H" refers to Honda.

I would email them directly. State what year, make, model and the model of alarm installed. State what shop installed it and state the problem you are having is ongoing and its creating a hassle they seem not to be able to remedy. Ask for technical assistance or another shop that can repair the first shops error for free.

Being a tight dealer network you have to be good to carry Compustar...
