That was my point, I don't see a lot of people gluing their own speakers togethersmoker wrote:actually mr. unique would build his own controls in his garage with his own welder and torch like a real man....
SPL is....SPL. There are a lot of subs out there that can get loud as snot, doesn't really reflect the quality of the equipment or the design integrity. I imagine Pioneer is still selling quite the high volume of stuff, though, considering they are also a Walmart specialty.smoker wrote:as for car audio.....scott owens has the loudest truck in the universe but you dont see people flocking to buy pioneer subs....at least not the good ones..
They do by a large margin. Can't remember who's #1 in volume at the moment, RF and MTX sell are up there as well.smoker wrote:but i do see xplod subs in cars weekly....id imagine they way outsell jl...
Well, if you're influenced by popular opinion....welcome to my last postsmoker wrote:and believe me i hear every couple days about how great xplods are and people wont replace them but i do swap out jl subs for other brands fairly frequently.......
I don't really feel the W7 was the accomplishment for JL. It was what they learned from the W7 in it's development that aided them the most. Compare the original W6 with the new W6v2, for example. Their improvements in motor design and analysis really aided the more "common" designs of their lineup, such as the W6v2s, ZR components, the larger W3v2 drivers, as well as the new W1v2s. W7 pays off the development cost ]still [/I] some of the most highly regarded components on the mobile market today (Dynaudio is updating their lineup soon, BTW). Other than that the best you can hope for is a bastardized version of a what is usually a good driver-Alpine F#1 Status components are an excellent example of this action. I must admit this lack of drive in the industry has caused me to lose a bit of interest in the car audio market, and I have quite a few home audio projects coming up. It's funny how many competition winners are using home audio drivers labeled as a "prototype" from their sponsors, conveniently covered with a well done stealthy install or a thick grill cover that won't hint at what's lurking beneath
