The new Soundstream, any experience with?

Post by sonso_chi »

So, I've been researching Sounstream amps online and apparently the NEW soundstream amps suck, compared to the likes of Audiobahn and Volfenhag (put on same list).

Not sure how they supposedly suck but I saw them listed under "poor" while the old soundstream amps were regarded as "2nd class audiophile" (below outright "audiophile", but above "quality").

This isn't terribly shocking given the new design and that you can get a Soundstream amp 1500w@ 2ohms, 2000w@1ohm for only $380 (on eBay).
http://cgi.ebay.com/Soundstream-Picasso ... dZViewItem

This seems like a common trend...

That sucks because that is exactly what I am looking for: 1500w@2ohm for $500 or less.

I'm willing to bet the answer is no, but by a long shot does anyone have experience with the new sound stream amps?

^I agree, but something on par with JL or even Kicker and MTX would be suitable for my budget.

I would like to be a step up from Audiobahn.

I will look at HiFonics and JBL, but I want 1500w@2ohm, not a 1 ohm load.

I do have experience with HiFonics, but I want to try something different.

I'll look forward to more feedback.

So why would you even consider them?

I have allways been a major fan of soundstream and have never really had any issues with them...now carl there head engineer is just simply very close to god himself when it comes to desighning an amp.as far as I am aware they are still inder rating thier amps....I just had two 480.2 amps pshing 2 12" sounstream vangough subs and wow sonded great and sql was unbelievable..but of course i wanted more upgraded to t412's and got a great deal on some merlin md2 amps and had to go with them....but as for the thread goes soundstream is still great especially their xxx line and that splx sub with aluminam voice coils wow I met 2 of the desighners and they blew me away with that desighn (but they no longer work for soundstream) :(
another option is you should look into powerbassusa.com (the desighners went there)

If I had to choose between:

Soundstream
Hifonics
MA Audio
Visonik

I'd choose Soundstream.
Now all three, aside from Soundstream, are commonly used/recommended amps for cheap power... pretty much almost the standards on the several forums I read.

Personally, I'd probably look to Phoenix Gold or Exile. And also Resonant Engineering (seems the 12.1 is perfect for you), or Treo possibly, all of these being quality, beefy amplifiers. Do any of these companies have an amp that would suit your needs? If so then the bottom line is price I guess... I'm sure I can help you get your hands on the RE 12.1, and IIRC, for about $379. (don't quote me on that)
