trying to decide if its worth it.

Post by two4fifteen »

okay, to start out, i still have my kicker kx600.1 running my RE SX12 and a kicker kx350.4 running my speakers. The two amps are the same size and fit perfectly on my rear seat back in my 2000 2 door cavalier, with little extra room. My dilemma, kicker just came out with their zx amps, and their zx1000.1 is a perfect match for my sub. it puts out 1000w rms at 2 ohm, and my sub is dual 4 ohm. The amp is also roughly the same size as the kx600.1 since they aren't using end caps on their zx series amps, so it would still fit, although it wouldn't look the same as my kx350.4. I was basically wandering how big of a difference you think I'd get with the new amp. Another thing is, i know that if i get this new amp i would definately need upgraded wiring (currently running 4 gauge),upgraded alt, and upgraded big 3. I just dont know if it's worth it.... Any suggestions or comments are welcome. Thanks

nope all that work for an extra 400 watts is not a big deal. especially if you dont plan on competeting. if the bass is enough for you then you are good!

Remember that doubling power nets roughly a 3db increase. So you'd need 1200W to get 3db, and that's assuming that your current amp can't push the sub to it's limits. Whether that's worth it is for you to decide. If you're happy with your setup now it's definately not worth it.

thats exactly what i like to hear. and i am happy with my current set-up. i only considered this option because it seemed to match my sub perfectly.

and has it been reconed before? or a special coil config? because they are usually dual 2ohm.

I would say stay with your kicker amp as for what it is it's a pretty powerful amp and I have fallen in love with mine I'm actually running the exact same amps in my truck. Anyway a perfect match isn't always a perfect match and as it has been mentioned on this forum before just because they have the same rms value that doesn't mean they are right for one another.

it seems to me as well that alot depends on your pre-out voltage on how many watts they can really handle as well. may not be true. but my bravox exs 12 is rated at 500, which is what i have to it via elevation xs125.4. but its from an eclipse putting out 8v. so i haven't gone past 1/2 gain cause it seems to push it a bit hard.
