Which amp to get?

Post by evo_from_hell »

Eventually I am going to buy a JL Audio 12W6V2 sub, and I need to know a couple amps that would power this sub well. I looked at a few but I am fairly new and am not sure on what to pair it up with. I was looking at the following amps:

Alpine MRD-M605
Hifonics BX 1205D
Infinity REF611A
JBL GTO601.1II
Kenwood KAC-9102D
Phoenix Gold X400.1

I have no idea if these amps will work or not with the sub. Please help me, thanks.

ok, did a little research on all them amps... thats a good sub choice by the way, try to get the dual 4ohm version, so you can hook it up to an amp for a 2ohm load..

Alpine amp - 400rms @2ohms
Hifonics amp - 900rms @2ohms
Infinity amp - 657rms @2ohm
JBL amp - 580rms @2ohms
Kenwood amp - 850rms @2ohms

i think that subs rms is around 600 isnt it? ive talked to a few people giving these subs alot more than their rms and they do fine.. but also check out the JBL 600.1 or JL 500/1.. the JBL amp does 600rms at 2ohms and the JL 500/1 does 500rms at 2ohms also..

Kicker KX400.1 is a good budget amp for that sub as well

RMS of the 12W6v2 is 400W-though it can take more than that if given it. Doubling power=3db increase. 400W compared to 500 isn't a big change, nor is 400 vs. 600.
