JVC KD-AVX1 vs. Eclipse 8445

This 2 head unit are my final pick and I know they're not in comparable category. The JVC can play dvd with a screen, the Eclipse I think will probably sound better. If the SQ between this two are not day and night different I probably go with the JVC and I can get them for the same price ($400). If you had any experience with any of this two please put your suggestion.

its night and day difference if you know how to use the eclipse. you can do 100x more stuff with the eclipse than that jvc. it all depends on what you want it for whats the rest of your system and if your going to fine tune it.

I have owned the 8445, and now own the 8455. The 8445 is an 8volt out and the JVC would probably be 4 volt out. The Eclipse will sound better, but that doesn't sound like it is what you want. You are looking at two totally different headunits. One is DVD with screen, and the other is an SQ HU with 7band PEQ and its own built-in active crossover. You might need to look at your particular need before going one way or the other.

If you plan on watching movies more, you will want to go with the JVC, but if you plan on listening to your music more, and you particularly want better SQ, then you will want to go with the Eclipse.

Even if they are both the same price, they are apples and oranges. One is a pure SQ HU, the other is DVD capable. The only deciding factor between these that I can see, is if the JVC is DVD-Audio capable. Then I would think it would be the better choice. But then again, I am partial to the Eclipse.

The JVC has an extensive built in EQ (7 band) and has an active crossover built in also.

The JVC is only a 5V pre outs, but that is good enough.

The JVC also has the 24 Bit Burr-Brown DAC...

Truthfully the only thing the 8445 has going over the JVC is the extra 3Volt preouts and simplicity...

The JVC is undoubtly a better deal IMHO. It has more features and the same SQ stuff the 8445 has...

will the JVC be easy to bypass the safety-lock feature with the ebrake grounded or using the PAC TR-7 will be easier.

The big advantage you'll get from Eclipse over JVC is the build quality. From the examples I've seen, the Eclipse units are built a lot better than the JVCs and of better materials.

Im not sure as I havent used this unit yet. But I would assume its defeatable.

I had the AR7000 Head Unit and before it an SH55. Excellent stuff.

My next unit will surely be another JVC Arsenal or EXAD series...

Ive used Pioneer, Sanyo, Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood. Never used an Eclipse, but Im sure they are decent units, bit pricey though...

Well I installed my 8445 a little over a week, and it already has operating problems. After talking to a few past owners of the 8445, these are common problems that happen n a lt of 8445's.

What kind of problems did you have Justin?? Im curious to see if they were the same as mine.
