fried my amp
i was bumpin my stereo then when i shut my car off and went into a friends house......i stayed i nthere for a bit...when i came out there was an odd smell trough out my car...then my subs didn't turn on and i went to my trunk to find that my protect light was on....at that point, i thought i had blown a sub or soemhting but when i pushed on sub in the other sub still moved so i figured my VCs weren't fried then i was smelling a round and the odd smell was pretty strong right a round my amp....then i smelt one of the vents and that was deffinetely it......any one gpt any ideas what trhe problem might have been. ...i wasn't playing it any louder than i usually do......although i do not have my gains poroperly set so is it possible that i clipped my amp to death?

Yeah, tell us what kind of amp and subs and what ohm you were running the amp. Also, this doesn't pertain to the amp but if you can push one sub and the other moves the box isn't perfectly sealed. I don't know what kind of setup you have, but if the subs are supposed to be in seperate chambers you might think about resealing the box. Of course the amp is the main focus right now. Did you check the wiring like the ground location and the terminals? I had my ground come loose last year and it burned up the terminal a little causing the car to smell horrible. It smelled like an electrical fire. Hopefully your amp is okay...

I did a search and found this post from a few days ago, and it looks like he has a tsunami db1100d unless he just bought the JL. I don't know much about tsunami, but from what I found online it appears that they can run stable to at least 1 ohm.broosky333 wrote:at this point in time, i have 2 12" RE SEs i na ported box and i have a tsunami DB1100d and iwas looking to get a different amp soemtime in the near future and i was wondering what a better amp would be fore these subs...i was looking into either a 1 ohm mono amp or 4 ohm bridged 2 channel....but i'm trying to stick on a budget of 350-500

That looks like a nice amp, I hope he didn't fry it. It seems more likely that it is the amp because the subs were working fine when he turned off the car, but I'm just guessing. We'll need to know more about how it is hooked up to determine what the problem is. I know he has a cap, so maybe there are some issues there...

i don't think its the cap cause i am running a 4 channel off the cap also....i am almost positive that its the amp that smellss....a few weeks ago my amp was going into protect and i found that the cub terminal on the box soemhow got really hot and melted so the the positive and negative terminals were touching and i fixed that terminal and the amp worked fine for a week and ahlaf at least and then now all of a sudden it stopped working.....got any clues what i messed up based on what happened to the amp before?
